Thomas Telford School, an 11–18 City Technology College with an enrolment of 1,630 students, is seeking to appoint a Director of Safeguarding to join our Senior Management Team. This role is a unique opportunity to lead safeguarding across our school, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students while contributing to the development of a culture of care, vigilance, and support throughout our school community.
The Director of Safeguarding will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the safeguarding and welfare of our students are of the highest priority. This is an exciting opportunity to have a significant impact on the safety, well-being, and development of young people, as well as supporting staff in fostering a safe and supportive environment for learning.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in safeguarding within an educational setting, with a proven ability to implement robust safeguarding policies, lead investigations, and work effectively with external agencies. You will have experience of managing teams and leading safeguarding initiatives and will be passionate about ensuring all students are protected from harm and able to thrive in a safe environment.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading and overseeing safeguarding procedures and practices to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
* Providing expert advice and guidance to staff on all aspects of safeguarding and child protection.
* Leading a team of Deputy Safeguarding Leads and ensuring their continued professional development.
* Coordinating and conducting safeguarding training for all staff members.
* Collaborating with external agencies, including social services, to provide support for students and families.
* Ensuring that safeguarding is embedded in all areas of school life, from the curriculum to extra-curricular activities.
* Managing high standards of behaviour and pastoral standards across the school.
* Managing the pastoral care of a year group and contributing towards their academic progress.
The successful candidate will possess:
* Senior leadership experience, ideally within a safeguarding or pastoral role.
* Strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding legislation and best practices.
* Experience as a pastoral leader to support the Pastoral Team.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and external agencies.
* A commitment to the welfare and safety of all students.
* Relevant qualifications in safeguarding or child protection.
