Hybrid working within this role enables a balance of 50 per cent of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.
The Infrastructure Protection team are responsible for managing the interface between our transport networks and the construction related activities of our neighbours. Our purpose is to mitigate the risks to our assets and operations, while helping London to develop. We also provide embedded engineering support to our property development company, Places for London (PfL).
Our portfolio is growing and we are recruiting more Engineers to support both Outside Party (OP) jobs and the Places for London portfolio. If successful you would be assigned to either Outside Parties or Places for London.
Both assignments will involve managing the technical and commercial aspects of your own jobs and being a trusted source of engineering advice to a range of internal and external stakeholders.
Work across both assignments typically includes:
* Leading on a range of third-party developments on behalf of Infrastructure Protection, including providing engineering input to property agreements and contracts.
* Reviewing and responding to a range of engineering documents produced by developers and their supply chain on a wide range of projects contributing to safe and efficient delivery, e.g. ground movement assessments, structural assessments and monitoring reports.
* Managing the interface between external clients, designers and contractors, and TfL assurance teams to obtain consents and access required for third party works.
* Interpreting assessment and monitoring reports and coordinating specialist technical reviews when required.
* Tracking time and cost of your jobs to aid cost recovery.
* (PfL) Preparing constraints and requirements plans, feasibility and design scopes for potential development sites.
* (PfL) Working with development managers, sponsors, asset strategy, surveyors, TfL legal to support incorporating new and altered transport assets into developer led schemes.
* (PfL) Providing engineering technical support to property asset managers to support the renewal of the Places for London estate.

Skills:
* Ability to negotiate technical details with designers and contractors plus other parties where appropriate and not concede points critical to TfL business.
* Ability to correctly interpret Acts under which railways, highways and other transport systems were built and are operated and maintained, legal property documentation, contracts etc.
* Ability to manage programme and commercial aspects of project delivery.
* Useful but not essential: Ability to produce two dimensional plans using standard CAD software or in GIS format and to produce and maintain databases.
Knowledge:
* Knowledge of the TfL transport system, its network and the different transport modes, how they function and ability to correctly assess risk to TfL infrastructure from various construction related activities.
* Knowledge of the principles of property development, utility infrastructure delivery and related legislation including Party Wall etc. Act, Town & Country Planning Act, Access to Neighbouring Lands Act, Construction (Design & Management) Regulations, Highways Act and various railway legislation.
* Working knowledge of commercial aspects of design and construction related works.
* Chartered/Incorporated Engineer (or actively progressing towards Chartership/Incorporated status) or recognised international equivalent or possesses relevant knowledge and experience.
Experience:
* Experience in developments and infrastructure projects interfacing with operational transport/railway systems.
* Experience of building relationships with and influencing a range of internal and external stakeholders.
* Experience in Civil or Structural Engineering, or Building Services to include at least one of design, assessment, maintenance or construction of railway or highway assets or structures.
* Experience in the execution of demolition, new construction or maintenance activities in close proximity to operational transport infrastructure.
* Useful but not essential: Experience of structural inspections and assessments particularly the ability to interpret reports and to use the information contained therein.
