The purpose of the job holder is to lead a team of scientists, technicians, and engineers to establish a pilot scale refining process to reclaim PGM and Ionomer from spent Fuel Cells, Electrolysers, and sub componentry for recycling. The incumbent will be responsible for the safe commissioning, improving, and running of the Pilot Plant through the current recycling process and where required process adaptation to meet future business requirements.
Your responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates leadership in EHS and contributes to all required aspects of safety reviews within the Refining Business
2. Promotes high environmental, health and safety standards and behaviours for yourself and your co-workers.
3. Ensure work is carried out in line with appropriate risk assessments (task-based risk, COSHH, manual handling, etc) for development work.
4. Drive root cause analysis of incidents that occur within the Brimsdown site.
5. Promotes initiative, innovation, and creativity to deliver business objectives and encourages others to look for opportunities to innovate.
6. Responsible for key technical work required for business development and improvement:
7. Formulates the Project Charter to efficiently address the business needs.
8. Planning the required work to achieve the project objectives.
9. Generating and interpreting data for assessment and project progress evaluation
10. Leading the project with regular feedback on progress and tracking key performance indicators
11. Generate and review project documents generated by internal JM personnel including but not limited to: Process descriptions, basis of safety, design basis, control strategy, mass balancing, PFD’s, P&ID’s, interlock matrices, process design, equipment and instrument specifications, mechanical design approvals and vendor FATs.
12. Guide commissioning work on new and existing plant equipment
13. Provide process expertise to enable HAZOP studies to be carried out on new process plants and Process Hazard Reviews on existing operations.
14. Develop and improve pyrometallurgical, hydrometallurgical, thermal and concentration processes in conjunction with production, customers, external technology suppliers, JMTC and other members of the technical team.
15. Deliver and analyse operational processes and data, supporting resolution of issues.
16. Planning & carrying out investigations and trials at lab, pilot and plant scale to provide scale-up information for the design of new refining processes or improvements to current installations.
17. Assist the Capital Projects team by providing technical expertise including developing process flow diagrams, conducting trials on new equipment, and collecting data for design.
18. Manage and develop a team of Process Engineers and/or Process Chemists and Technicians.
19. Provides coaching and mentorship for more junior process engineers and/or chemists.
Requirements for the role:
20. A master’s degree in chemical engineering (or similar) based subject. – Essential.
21. > 5 years demonstrated technical expertise in a specialized field – Essential.
22. Substantial experience within process development or relevant operations – Essential.
23. Understanding of heat and mass balances, P&IDs and PFDs and other process docs - Desirable.
24. Understanding of hazard studies – Essential.
25. Experience working within a manufacturing of precious metals (high value) business – Desirable.
