Elevation recruitments Engineering & Technical division are working with a specialist manufacturing business based in Sheffield on an Metallurgist vacancy as the team continue to strengthen their technical division in 2024.
Utilising your metallurgical expertise, the role will focus on a wide range of contract review, client / part compliance, cross functional stake holder work (internal & external) and specialise product metallurgy support. This role provides an excellent opportunity for an experience or developing metallurgist to add significant technical value to the department whilst further strengthening their career, commercial exposure and technical knowledge.
Key Metallurgist Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Undertake contract reviews (including OEM related orders) to ensure the material to be purchased or allocated meets customer requirements. Ensure a suitable, cost-effective production route has been created, any additional testing has been identified and make amendments where necessary to ensure that the finished job will meet customer requirements
2. Provide support of an operational and technical nature whilst performing contract review of incoming purchase orders, intra-company order requirements and specification/procedural requirements.
3. To review manufacturing routes to ensure compliance with specification and purchase order requirements whilst striving for maximum efficiency.
4. Work in conjunction with engineering, quality and sales department to create manufacturing routes which may include intricate operations such as hardness testing, heat treatment, ultrasonic testing and subcontract operations.
5. Review and interpret complex material specifications including feeding back findings/issue to customers through sales department where necessary.
6. Create documentation such as test requirement sheets for mechanical, analytical, non-destructive and metallurgical testing, manufacturing process specifications, inspection and test plans and subcontract purchase order instructions to heat treatment and machining companies as required.
7. Working with the customer to resolve all technical and operational issues that arise in a timely manner.
8. Raising concessions for submission to the customer
9. Raising and resolving NCR’s
10. Acting as the interface between the customer and our suppliers. Visiting suppliers and customers and acting and accompanying our customers on supplier visits
11. Witnessing specific processes/testing to ensure they are produced in a way that complies with ours and our customer’s requirements.
12. Acting as the interface between Maher and 2nd and 3rd party inspectors
13. Raising customer related certificates and documentation packages and submission of documentation to the customer.
14. Cover Technical & Quality Manager in their absence.
15. Entering/filing of specifications in Filestream, Epicor and Optimat.
16. NDT – Overall Technical Responsibility
17. Hardness - Overall Technical Responsibility
18. REACH, ROHS & Conflict Minerals responsibility to updating and maintaining Maher documents.
19. Provide training as required for sales and purchasing staff to cover technical aspects of the business including new starters, backward integration for existing staff and refresher training as identified by department heads.
Key Metallurgist Skills & Experience:
20. Degree or HND in Metallurgy or Materials Engineering
21. Ideally of 5 years of metals/metal working industry experience.
22. Eperience with reviewing manufacturing routes to ensure compliance
23. Experience of writing technical reports
24. Experience of working to OEM technical specifications and Quality requirements
25. Good problem-solving skills with a good understanding and experience of using methods such as 8D, 5 Whys, Six Sigma
