Applications are invited from Clinical / Counselling Psychologists enthusiastic about working within the Trafford Older Adults CMHT. This established team supports people living with dementia and older people with mental health needs. This post is based within the CMHT at Crossgate House, Sale.
Clinical work will involve conducting a range of psychological and neuropsychological assessments and interventions. Applicants will be able to demonstrate experience or a high level of enthusiasm/commitment to working with older people with or without dementia. Experience of working within multidisciplinary environments will also be an advantage.
Please be advised that this role is on a fixed term contract in order to cover current maternity leave until June 2025.
Main duties of the job
You will work with the welcoming Older Adult Community Mental Health Team, which comprises of Doctors, Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners, trainee CBT for Psychosis workers, Support Time and Recovery Workers, and our team of Administrators.
The role will consist of ensuring there is a psychological presence within the MDT to ensure that psychological interventions are considered and treatment options are available to our patients.
The role will consist of completing neuropsychological assessments and interventions for patients who may have cognitive impairment to support their diagnosis and treatment process.
The role will also consist of supporting patients who may be older adults without cognitive impairment, with psychological assessment and intervention.

Qualifications
* Good Honours Degree in Psychology
* Post-graduate doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology
* Eligibility to register as Clinical/Counselling Psychologist with HCPC
* BPS Accreditation
* Related Academic Qualification to Masters or Doctoral Level
Experience
* Experience of working with moderate to severe mental health problems, including highly emotive and distressing problems, challenging behaviour, severe and enduring mental health problems.
* Experience of working within and contributing to a multi-disciplinary team.
* Experience of specialist psychological & assessment (including neuropsychological assessment) and treatment of older adult clients and those with psychological difficulties in the context of an organic presentation (mainly dementia), across a full range of care settings, including inpatient, community, and statutory, voluntary and private sector residential and nursing settings.
* Experience of working within a multi-cultural framework.
Knowledge
* Up to date knowledge of the needs of people with severe and enduring mental health problems, including dementia.
* Training and experience of specialist assessment and treatment of older adult clients and those with psychological difficulties in the context of an organic presentation, across a full range of care settings, including inpatient, community, and statutory, voluntary and private sector residential and nursing settings.
* Familiarity with computing technology, including keyboard skills, and use of word-processing, e-mail, and internet software.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and its implications for clinical practice in relation to older people.
Skills
* Ability to demonstrate an interest in working with older adults and people with organic conditions.
* Ability to work with service users, carers and families to engage with their needs and provide them with appropriate psychological support and intervention.
* Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
* Well developed, effective communication skills, both orally and in writing, enabling complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to be shared with clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues within the NHS and other agencies.
* Ability to prioritise work, operate a waiting list, meet short deadlines and an unpredictable work pattern that requires regular revision of plans.
* Ability to sit in constrained position for client therapy, testing and for computer work.
* Ability to work at a high level of professional autonomy and responsibility, in a collaborative multi-disciplinary environment and also as a lone worker in circumstances where there may be exposure to verbal and sometimes physical aggression.
* Able to sustain the intense concentration necessary for client assessment and formulation, individual therapy sessions, interviews.
* Ability to work and communicate highly sensitive, contentious information effectively in a highly emotive or hostile atmosphere, and to overcome barriers to acceptance/psychological resistance to potentially threatening information.
* Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials, suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
* Ability to demonstrate an area of special interest/skill in therapeutic intervention.
* Ability to move equipment (including case files, bulky neuropsychological tests, self-help materials, audio-visual equipment) between office base and other work settings.
Other
* There is a frequent requirement to travel mainly within the Trafford area in order to visit patients and an occasional requirement to travel across the wider footprint of the Trust to attend meetings and events relevant to the role. Therefore, a car driver is required (except where a supported driver arrangement can be provided under the Disability Discrimination Act).
* Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
* Ability to work towards goals agreed at Individual Appraisal with the Service Manager.
* Ability to work to professional guidelines.
