Description Principal Process Engineer – Wastewater Treatment Location: Chester / Manchester / Leeds Reports to: Team Leader / Discipline Design Lead Role Purpose: This role will contribute to successfully delivering projects to budget and timescales. Responsibilities: Oversee the efficient and safe process designs, technical reports, drawings, and specifications for wastewater design projects. Detailed check/review of outline design mass balances, P&IDs, process unit sizing, pumped systems, equipment data sheets, DSEAR reports, Basis of Design documents, and control philosophy/URS documents. Preparation and attendance at HAZOPs and ensuring follow-up actions are completed. Supervision and development of less experienced engineers. Collaboration and proactive engagement with other disciplines including Mechanical, EC&I, hydraulic, and civil. Work with Project Managers, Design Managers, and Project Engineers in coordinating and delivering multidiscipline projects. Identifying scope changes and limitations. Work directly with clients (Water Companies and Tier 1 Contractors) in design meetings and technical discussions. Provide and coordinate construction phase technical support for projects under construction. Providing ongoing consulting services to established clients. Proactively engaging with clients to establish and maintain a strong relationship. Networking with colleagues and peers across GHD and the industry. Rigorous check/review procedures within an established framework. Critical Relationships: The Principal Process Engineer reports to a Process Team Leader and collaborates with all stakeholders cross-discipline to achieve ‘best for project’ outcomes. Specific Experience, Skills & Knowledge: Demonstrates experience of UK municipal wastewater processes including design and construction project support experience. Demonstrates significant understanding of UK biological treatment processes, tertiary treatment equipment, chemical dosing, biosolids management, and control systems for water industry projects. Specific experience of primary treatment, nutrient removal, biological systems. Experience of biosolids systems is an advantage. Track record of delivering an exceptional client experience to contractors and/or end clients. Flexible with great communication skills and ability to work within a team and independently. Proactive attitude in addressing design challenges. Experience in process unit design and selection from first principles. Experience with BioWin will be an advantage. Experience of detailed design for construction contractors is an advantage but not essential. Willing and able to travel to other offices and client sites when needed. Qualifications: Chartered Engineer accreditation with the IChemE, CIWEM, or equivalent. Bachelor’s and/or Master's degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering (or equivalent).
