Job Title : Distribution and Plant Technician - Railway Type: Permanent Location: Swindon Salary: Dependant on Experience Job Reference: BMDPSWIN I am looking for a skilled Electrical Technician who holds a relevant electrical qualification, to deliver technical engineering excellence across the railway surrounding on the Wales and Western Route. The Role: As a technician, you'll work outdoors alongside a team, carrying out crucial tasks to maintain the safety and efficiency of the railway for passengers and freight services. The Technicians serve as the vital connection between the team leader and the operatives, and while they can focus on various areas of expertise, in this role you'll become a specialist in: Distribution and Plant - Here, you will work with electrical distribution systems and plant equipment, which are crucial for powering the rail network. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Perform essential electrical maintenance and repairs to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the railway network, including working with electrical distribution and plant equipment. Lead and support a team of operatives, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and high work standards, while promoting a culture of safety and risk management. Conduct inspections, fault diagnosis, and maintenance of electrical systems, applying technical skills to address issues and ensure reliability for passengers and freight users. Collaborate with multi-disciplined response teams to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and ensure quicker fault fixes. Continuously develop technical skills and competencies, staying up to date with new technologies and standards to enhance performance in the field. Operate in all weather conditions, working outdoors and at night, and be prepared for physical tasks and manual labour, including the transport of heavy equipment across challenging terrain. Essential Requirements: NVQ Level 3 qualification in Electrical Installation. Experience in electrical maintenance, inspection, fault-finding, and repair, particularly in distribution and plant equipment. Full UK driving license (category B) and within a 60-minute commute of the job location. Willingness to work a changing shift pattern, including days, nights, and weekends, and perform outdoor work in all weather conditions. Pass pre-employment medical assessments, including drug and alcohol testing, hearing, and eyesight examinations.
