Orkney lies approximately nine miles north of the Scottish mainland and is home to the smallest local authority in Scotland. Kirkwall Grammar School is one of two six-year secondary schools in Orkney with a catchment area covering the town of Kirkwall, the East Mainland and many of the outer isles. The current school roll is approx. 850 pupils. Almost all secondary aged pupils with additional support needs in the county attend their local community school. Kirkwall Grammar School however is additionally and specifically resourced to meet the needs of young people with the most complex needs.
As Head Teacher you will be part of the Education Service management team and will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of education in Orkney as a whole.
Applicants must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland and be able to demonstrate that they have, through both experience and professional development, met the criteria in the Standard for Headship.
This post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with children.
Salary is based on Point 15 of the Headteacher/Depute Headteacher spine of the SNCT Salary Tables, plus Distant Islands Allowance. We offer a generous relocation package.
