We are pleased to be offering 1 x ST1 post in Neonatology based at the neonatal intensive care unit at the William Harvey Hospital (WHH). The appointee will participate in a 1:9 rota including on calls in Neonatology at the William Harvey Hospital (WHH).
The level 3 Neonatal intensive care unit at the William Harvey hospital, Ashford. Overall within the Trust there is a provision for 7 IC, 6 HDU and 26 SC cots. This post is based at the William Harvey site. The level 3 unit at the WHH has 7 Intensive Care (IC), 4 high dependency (HDU) and 14Special care (SC) cots. It provides medical intensive care services to gestational ages above the limit of viability including conventional ventilation, high frequency ventilation, nitric oxide therapy and therapeutic hypothermia. Neonatal patients requiring cardiac or general surgery are usually transferred to the Evelina Children's Hospital. The unit accepts both in-utero and ex-utero referrals from within the Trust, within the network and from further afield where required. Medical support for the unit is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by 6 Neonatologists/ 7 Registrars and ST1-3/ANNPs.
The post holder will be expected to:
- Provide ST1-2 level medical cover for neonatal services. This will involve clinical shifts in one of 3 clinical areas (ICU, HDU&SC, postnatal ward). There are also additional shifts for administration, audit and quality improvement.
- Attend neonatal deliveries and provide initial stabilisation and resuscitation to babies who require this.
- Attend and participate in daily handover.
- Attend weekly multidisciplinary meetings and ward round.
- Meet with their educational supervisor within 2 weeks of beginning the post.
