Description Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) are recruiting wholetime operational firefighters. For this recruitment intake CFRS are seeking applications from the following groups of UK local authority firefighters: On-call firefighters from within CFRS who are currently competent in post. Wholetime competent firefighters from out-of-county fire and rescue services (local authority) On-call firefighters who are competent from out-of-county fire and rescue services On-call firefighters from within CFRS who are due to take their final stage review before 31/05/2025. Please note that personnel ranked higher than firefighter are welcome to apply, however if they are successful they will be accepting the rank of firefighter. Should they wish to seek promotion once they are employed by CFRS they will need to follow the CFRS promotion policy and procedure. This recruitment campaign will create a pool of candidates available to fulfil substantive wholetime firefighter vacancies as and when they arise. Please note, gaining a place within this pool does not guarantee a position. The first successful candidate’s taken from this pool will have a start date of 6 May 2025. They must be able to demonstrate compliance in each of the following areas: Breathing apparatus Fitness assessment Medical CFRS applicants PDR profile will be reviewed upon application. Non CFRS applicants will need to provide evidence of compliance at point of application. The role is operational and hence non-operational personnel or green book employees are not eligible to apply. Personnel within CFRS Critical Control will only be eligible to apply if they hold an on-call contract. You must not hold any current disciplinary sanctions. This position will be subject to a standard criminal record disclosure check. Workplace allocation Those applying may be required to work at any CFRS wholetime station. Induction course and start dates Successful candidates will undertake a bespoke training course prior to appointment. Those offered a start date in 2025 will attend a non-residential training course from 6–16 May 2025 based at CFRS Headquarters, Tolvaddon, and will commence work on their designated stations on 19 May 2025. You must attach three separate answers under the headings above, each answer should be a maximum of 4000 characters. You can disregard the 8000 character limit stated by the system. You will also be asked a question about your understanding of safeguarding. This should a maximum of 500 words. The character count allowed by the system is 2000 characters.
