Global Network Building Services Technician Location: Buckinghamshire based (deployable globally) About Us We’re MI6, also known as the Secret Intelligence Service. Our mission is to protect the security and economic wellbeing of the UK from overseas threats such as regional instability, terrorism, and cyber-attacks. Working across the globe and in close partnership with MI5 and GCHQ, we help the Government to counter these threats through the provision of secret intelligence. A role in MI6 will see you providing vital support to this work, within a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork. The Role An experienced tradesperson, you’ll help to maintain our global estate as a Building Services Technician. It’s a unique and exciting opportunity to keep mechanical, electrical and building installations working safely, effectively and efficiently, at our sites all over the world. Please note that this role involves substantial international travel (150-170 days abroad), often at short notice, including weekends; you will always be supported by our team of reliable and professional technicians – we’re a small team and rely on each other, whether that be from physically being overseas on a job together or at the end of the phone. This is a truly unique role you won't find anywhere else. Using your knowledge of common building service systems, you’ll install and repair commercial and domestic electrical systems, diagnosing faults, rewiring and monitoring as necessary. You’ll do the same for HVAC systems, including DX, VRV, VRF and ventilation systems. It means you could be rewiring lighting one day and fixing fire alarms the next. Whatever the task, you’ll submit cost and labour reports and assess and scope works, identifying what equipment’s needed. You may need to diagnose faults remotely and then work independently on site to locate and rectify them. Whether you’re based in an office or industrial setting, you’ll provide exceptional customer service and support other tradespeople on electrical, plumbing and building projects. About You At this level, we’ll expect you to tackle maintenance, fault finding, repairs, installation and safety compliance. You’ll also mentor junior colleagues, so sound expertise is vital. To join us, you must have completed an Electrical Apprenticeship to NVQ level 3 or above, including AM1 and AM2. You’ll also have Inspecting and Testing certification to City & Guilds 2391 (or equivalent). Along with these qualifications, you’ll have experience of low and extra-low voltage wiring systems, alarm systems and general electrical maintenance. You’ll also be adept at installing and maintaining lighting – hence your JIB/ECS-approved status. In short, you’ll be a skilled and organised professional with electrical qualifications. You’ll be as confident adding electrical designs to plans, as you are dealing with air conditioning. With working knowledge of BS7671:2018A2:2022, NICEIC and risk assessments, you’ll bring proven technical talent. If you can also communicate clearly both on paper and in person, we’d like to hear from you. Training and Development Continued professional development is all part of the package, with time set aside for training. We’ll help you keep up with evolving industry standards and changes within the industry. If you need further training on A/C, HVAC or fire alarm systems, we’ll be happy to oblige. We can also help you work towards F Gas Cat 1 certification.
