Swansea University’s Department of Politics, Philosophy, and International Relations (PPIR) is hiring a Senior Lecturer in Politics. This permanent role, subject to probation, seeks a candidate to contribute to its dynamic research and teaching culture, particularly in high-impact research. The successful applicant will benefit from research funding and institutional support through departmental, faculty, and university-wide groups.
Candidates should have significant research experience with a national or international reputation in Politics, Political Science, or Public Policy. While specializations are flexible, alignment with the University’s Politics and International Studies (UoA 19) research unit is required. The department’s research strengths include public policy, drug policy, governance, elections, political parties, identity politics, and migration. The appointee is expected to engage with existing research teams and structures, including the Comparative Politics and Parties Research Group.
The role requires effective and innovative teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students, emphasizing research methods. Responsibilities also include postgraduate supervision and contributing to the BA and MA Politics and International Relations programs.
At the senior lecturer level, administrative duties include shaping the department’s research culture, engaging with faculty research institutes, and building on extant collaborations with external networks including the Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research and Data (IWSERD). The appointee will play a key role in advancing the university’s excellence in research, teaching, and student experience while potentially engaging in international collaborations. The candidate may also assume school and/or faculty-wide teaching and management responsibilities.
