We are a school that values diversity and individual contribution, supporting and encouraging staff to pursue their interests and achieve their ambitions. We are seeking an outstanding Biology teacher, whether newly qualified or more experienced, to join a school where Biology is an exciting, popular subject.
You should be capable of teaching at all levels and be keen to advance the standing of an already strong department and to play an active role in the academic and extra-curricular life of a lively, positive and high achieving school. It would be an advantage to be able to offer a second science subject. This is a full-time one-year contract to cover the career break of the current Head of Department and offers:
* An exciting time of curriculum reform (Latymer is replacing most GCSEs with internally designed and assessed courses from 2027).
* Significant support for professional development (such as part-funding available for further study, and two periods a fortnight devoted to professional development).
* High-attaining students: In 2024, 83% of students obtained A-A* grades at A level. In the iGCSE Biology examinations 85% of students achieved an 8 or 9. A large number of the A Level students carry on to study Biology-related degrees at prestigious universities and medical schools. In the last two year, two students have represented the United Kingdom in the International Biology Olympiad.
* A supportive departmental environment.
To apply and to find out more about the school and our attractive staff benefits package, including an onsite gym, free lunch, multi-faith room, library and the possibility of on-site accommodation, please visit our website and view the section “ Join our Team ”.
Closing date: 9am on Wednesday 12 March 2025.
Interview date: Wednesday 19th March 2025.
We will review applications as they are submitted, and suitable candidates may be interviewed before the closing date. We therefore reserve the right to withdraw the position if an early appointment is made.
Diversity – The School is fully committed to the principles of equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion. We have an established and representative staff Equality and Diversity Board to help drive forward positive change. A further Equality and Diversity Committee has recently been formed from our student population.
We are committed to attracting and retaining the very best staff, ensuring that our staff body reflects the diversity of our students and local community. Acknowledging a lack of ethnic diversity within our staff community, we particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates for this role. All appointments will be made on merit, following a fair and transparent process. In line with the Equality Act 2010, however, the School may employ positive action where diverse candidates can demonstrate their ability to perform the role equally well.
The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The post is subject to an enhanced DBS check, online check and two satisfactory references.
