We are looking for a Patient Environment Assistant (Porter) for 33.5 hours per week on a flexible rota over 7 days, which may include weekends and nights.
The ideal candidate should be hard working, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Main duties of the job
The aim of the role is to support the clinical teams in maintaining the optimum environment for our patients. The main duties include:
1. Supporting patient movement
2. Removal and disposal of waste
3. Handling of medical gases
About us
We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as several community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and RLI offer a range of General Hospital services, including full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides General Hospital services along with an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life threatening conditions.
All three hospitals offer planned care, including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase, and inpatient surgery, as well as local outreach services from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
* Driving Licence
* Basic Numeracy and literacy skills
* NVQ or BICS qualification in cleaning sciences or equivalent
* Certificate in COSHH
* Certificate in Health and Safety
Experience
* Previous operational manual handling experience
* Experience in dealing with internal and external communication using both verbal and written material
* Knowledge of cleaning in a large setting or Health Care environment
Skills, ability and knowledge
* Ability to deal with information sensitively and confidentially
* Ability to interact with a diverse range of people face to face
* Able to communicate effectively within a team and provide feedback to colleagues and line managers
Personal Qualities
* Ability to travel between the Trust sites as required
* Flexible approach to work patterns when necessary
* Ability to manage day-to-day workloads linked to hygiene procedures and follow written cleaning schedules
* Reporting equipment breakdowns and faults to supervisors
* Ability to manage day-to-day workloads in food hygiene procedures and follow written schedules
* Strong listening skills and ability to share and receive support and advice
