The Enterprise Data Architect is responsible for defining the strategic direction of HL's data architecture. This role ensures that the data architecture aligns with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry data management best practices, such as DAMA. This position involves defining the development and implementation of data architecture frameworks, standards, and policies to support data governance, quality, and security. It is essential for promoting a data-centric culture and enabling data-driven decision-making across HL. What you will be doing Data Architecture: Designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise data architecture. Ensuring that the data architecture aligns with business goals, objectives and initiatives to drive value. Data Strategy and Governance: Developing and implementing a comprehensive enterprise data strategy. This includes establishing long-term roadmaps, policies, procedures, and standards for data management, ensuring data quality, privacy, and security, and aligning data initiatives with business objectives. Collaboration and Colleague Engagement: Acting as a liaison between different business units, IT / digital teams, and executive and senior leadership. Collaborating with key stakeholders to understand their data needs, prioritise initiatives, and ensure alignment with HL goals. Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management: Ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Establishing data governance frameworks, implementing controls for data protection, and monitoring data usage to mitigate risks associated with data breaches and regulatory non-compliance. Innovation and Digital Transformation: Driving innovation by leveraging data and new technologies such as AI and machine learning. Spearheading transformation initiatives that use data analytics to create new business models, enhance journeys, products or services, and improve client engagement. Data Quality and Transparency: Implementing data quality initiatives to ensure trusted data for decision-making. Driving data architecture practices such as cataloging, glossary, and lineage to ensure traceability and transparency of data. Data Modelling Best Practice Methodologies: Ensure flexibility and scalability by designing data models that can adapt to changing business needs and accommodate future growth. Research data acquisition opportunities: commissioning and managing the delivery of work from external partners where required. Optimise existing data systems to improve performance: continuous focus on opportunities to reduce costs, and support faster decision- making. About you Data Modelling: Proficiency in creating conceptual, logical, physical and semantic data models. With experience using tools like ERwin, PowerDesigner. Database Management: Experience with SQL and NOSQL databases, understanding the principles of data warehousing and operational data and experience with ETL/ELT processes. Cloud Platforms: Knowledge of cloud services with a preference as AWS, for cloud services. Data Integration: Expertise in ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), streaming and other integration processes and tools. Data Governance: Understanding of data governance frameworks, data quality, and data security measures. Programming Languages: Proficiency in languages such as Python and R. Analytical Skills Problem-Solving: Ability to analyse complex data requirements and translate them into effective data architectures. Critical Thinking: Evaluating data solutions and making decisions that align with business goals. Data Analysis: Proficiency in data mining, predictive modelling, and using tools like Power BI, Sigma Analytics for data visualisation and Sagemaker for Machine Learning. Strategic and Soft Skills Communication/ stakeholder management skills: Strong ability to communicate technical concepts and advise to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate with various teams. Leadership: Experience in leading data architecture projects and mentoring junior team members. Managing/leading data architecture, transformation, cloud services and connectivity. Project Management: Skills in managing data projects, including planning, execution, and monitoring Experience Hands-on expertise with data warehousing and management, including data processing, integration, and advanced analytics (e.g., Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Databricks, Cloudera, Oracle). Experience managing a portfolio of technical programmes within an established Enterprise Data office/management function. Technical understanding of modern data architectures, tools, and platforms. Interview process The interview process for this role is three stages including a technical competency-based questions and a task. Working Schedule This role is based in Bristol head office, BS1 5HL. This role is permanent, full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. We have returned to the office, however for this role we offer hybrid and remote working patterns. Why us?
