We are currently recruiting Pharmacy Dispensers and welcome applications on a full and part time basis. We currently have permanent and fixed term posts available.
You will join our rotational team largely in Sunderland Royal Hospital but will be required to work across our three Pharmacies and support our manufacturing teams. Our Inpatient pharmacy supplies pharmaceutical items to wards and departments across our various sites and also supports the medicine management team. Our Outpatient pharmacy dispenses prescriptions to patients attending outpatient clinics within the three outpatient sites operated by our dispensing partner CHoICE. Our Manufacturing team aseptically prepare medicines for individual patients.
It is essential that applicants have NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services and have some experience of working in a busy Pharmacy. Training in manufacturing can be provided for those applicants with a community pharmacy background. The successful candidate will be supported to undertake the Accredited Checking course after being in post for 6 months.
This role operates across a shift pattern which includes Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm, weekend working 10.00am to 18.00pm and late night 11.30am to 20.00pm / 9.30am to 18.00pm.
Main duties of the job
Candidates should have achieved NVQ LEVEL 2 or equivalent in Pharmacy services; you would be expected to undertake an accredited checking course after 6 months in post. The post is rotational including South Tyneside and Sunderland Outpatient pharmacies.
You would be expected to be part of a late night, weekend and bank holiday rotas. You should be adaptable, methodical and have excellent communication and time keeping skills. You must be able to work well within the team and also have the ability to work on your own initiative to deliver excellent patient care.
We work in conjunction with the pharmacy education team and we assist with training of new staff which you would be expected to undertake.

Job responsibilities
To dispense prescriptions for inpatients, discharged outpatients and to aid in the supply of medicines to wards and other departments. To assist in the provision and development of pharmacy services and medicine management systems to South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (STSFT).
Duties and Responsibilities of the Post:
1. To dispense and where appropriate check prescriptions for inpatients, discharged or outpatients as per standard practice at STSFT.
2. To assist in the replenishment of medicine supplies to wards and other departments.
3. To ensure that the working areas are maintained in a clean and tidy condition, free from unwanted materials and equipment.
4. To ensure that any faults or damaged equipment or facilities are reported immediately to the Senior Technicians or Pharmacists.
5. To be aware of Health and Safety/COSHH issues regarding handling of potentially hazardous materials and comply with policies and procedures relating to their handling.
6. To promote and participate in the concept of clinical governance to Pharmacy.
7. To participate in rotas covering evenings, weekend, and bank holidays.
8. To undertake other reasonable duties to meet the needs of the service as directed by the Chief Pharmacist/Pharmacy Directorate Manager.

Person Specification
Experience
* Relevant pharmaceutical experience e.g. dispensing prescriptions, dealing with the public.
* Experience in dealing with patients.
* Well Motivated.
Qualifications
* Recognised Pharmaceutical Qualification (NVQ Level 2 Pharmacy Services).
* Must undertake accredited checking course after 6 months in post.
