Main Purpose of the Role:
The Registered Manager is responsible for delivering high-quality care to the children and young people resident within the Home. This includes the delivery of all care services, strategic planning for developments within the Home, and all day-to-day management matters.
The Registered Manager shapes and delivers the Home's Statement of Purpose, Children's Guide, Location Risk Assessment, and manages the team to achieve the identified standards. They provide high-quality care services that support the needs of children and young people, advocate for their well-being, and provide strong, motivational leadership to staff.
The Registered Manager is expected to demonstrate practical leadership in childcare, organize and support staff to provide the best possible care for each child and young person. This involves being personally available, supervising and mentoring staff, organizing work patterns, facilitating care-focused training, and accessing appropriate services to support childcare practices within the Home.
As this is a vital role in the lives of children and young people cared for at Olive Mount (Supporting Journeys, Children's Services), it requires an active and long-term commitment. The Directors and the Responsible Individual work closely with each Registered Manager, assisting them in providing high-quality care. The Registered Manager is wholly responsible for ensuring an appropriate staff presence to meet the childcare needs of the children and young people in the Home.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership:
To manage a Residential Home and ensure the efficient operation of the service in accordance with the relevant legislation, procedures, policies, and the Statement of Purpose.
To provide effective leadership by implementing organizational strategies to enable objectives.
To ensure that the policies and procedures are implemented and that care standards are never compromised.
To ensure a Statement of Purpose is in place that is appropriate to the needs of the young people and outlines qualifications, experience, and expertise of the staff employed within the Home.
To ensure professional ethics and behavior are demonstrated by all staff at all times, actively coordinating the service provision and being a focal point for support, advice, and coaching to all staff within the Home.
To manage a designated budget, ensuring that the company achieves value for money through monitoring and control of expenditure and early identification of any financial irregularities.
To chair meetings, reviews, and discussions as necessary and participate in a range of corporate and management activities as defined by the Director/Responsible Individual.
To supervise and coach the management team, ensuring that they, in turn, model best practice to improve children's lives and ensure the best possible outcomes.
Any other duties as may be required by the Director/Responsible Individual or their authorized representatives.
Service Development:
To produce a development plan for the service that ensures the delivery of high-quality, clinically informed practice.
To contribute to the development of corporate policies and service initiatives aimed at improving the service.
To be responsible for the effective development of a range of quality direct services to young people.
To be involved in the recruitment of staff, including short-listing, interviewing, and inducting new employees.
To contribute to the continuous improvement of the SJ (Supporting Journeys) Quality Assurance Framework and lead its implementation, taking responsibility for all duties associated with regulatory compliance, including annual inspections, dip-sampling, analysis, reporting, and action planning.
To sustain and develop case management and administration systems to ensure effective, efficient childcare, including necessary administration to maintain the highest standards of accommodation.
Team Management:
To promote team development and effective team working, ensuring that all staff receive appropriate induction, supervision, and annual appraisals.
To actively participate in grievance, disciplinary, health and safety, and other staff matters to support the Director/Responsible Individual and Operations Manager.
To supervise and support the staff group, ensuring that the team is developed appropriately to meet the specific needs of children and young people in the Home.
To ensure staff supervision supports both childcare delivery and staff development.
To develop individual staff training programs in line with company plans and needs, supervising/providing observations for staff through their NVQ Level 3, 4, or 5 Award (Health and Social Care - Children and Young People).
To complete probationary and annual performance appraisals for all staff to ensure appropriate levels of childcare.
To establish and manage the team communications systems, ensuring that company procedures, policies, strategies, and objectives are effectively communicated to all team members.
To provide leadership and coaching in childcare practice within the Home to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people.
To mentor and support the Deputy Manager and/or Team Leaders in providing the best possible childcare practices.
To coordinate and monitor casework and administrative functions of the Home and evaluate standards of performance.
To organize duty rotas to ensure the needs of young people are met at all times.
To undertake any other duties that may be required.
Care for Children:
To ensure the effective implementation of the Children Act 1989 and accompanying guidance and regulations, the Care Standards Act 2000, and the Children's Homes Regulations 2001, in consultation with the relevant statutory body.
To demonstrably improve the lives of children and young people, ensuring that they achieve the best possible outcomes while managing the Home effectively and efficiently within available resources.
To ensure that any matters related to child protection are managed in line with current legislation, national standards, and best safeguarding practices.
To maintain the highest possible standards of childcare and ensure that each child and young person's agreed placement plan is fully implemented.
To coordinate and access appropriate services (health, education, therapy) to ensure the needs of each child and young person are met.
To assist and supervise in the continual assessment of the needs of children and young people and to identify and prepare specific development plans to ensure the most appropriate service provision.
To ensure all clinical practices and medication processes within the Home are conducted in line with legislation.
To be responsible for safeguarding and promoting individual rights, providing good quality care that is free from oppression and where differences are respected and valued.
To promote appropriate and therapeutic relationships between staff and young people and their families, encouraging involvement and participation in the day-to-day life of the Home.
To ensure that the staff team is enabled to undertake duties with young people who are non-resident or who have been resident to provide continuity of care where appropriate or to avoid admission to the looked after system when in the best interests of the young person concerned.
Positive Relationships:
To promote the practice of working in partnership with young people, their families, other staff, and other agencies to meet the needs of children and young people.
To liaise with various internal and external multi-disciplinary teams and commissioning authorities to ensure that the care needs of new and existing residents are met.
To be accountable and take responsibility for liaising with regulatory organizations regarding the management of the home.
To ensure a full flow of information into and out of the team and develop effective communication strategies and systems to assist staff in their duties.
Health and Safety:
To ensure compliance with all Health & Safety Regulations according to policies, procedures, and practices.
To ensure all staff are aware of Health & Safety procedures.
To ensure that all incidents/accidents are recorded and reported according to procedures.
To undertake fire drills and tests according to procedures and record the necessary data.
To regularly inspect the condition of the structure, fabric, furnishings, and fittings of the building to ensure all necessary equipment is in good working order and of an acceptable standard of repair.
To maintain a clean and safe environment and ensure that all repair/maintenance problems are dealt with promptly.
To undertake risk assessments as appropriate.
Management Responsibility:
To set and review targets and objectives for the home's staff team to ensure focused work with clear direction.
Governance:
To ensure effective finance budgets, control, administration, and records comply with the home's expectations and procedures.
To manage the Home within the agreed budget, taking full responsibility for all incidental costs as well as direct costs such as repairs to the property and appliances, staff costs, food, heating, agency costs, etc.
To effectively manage the Home's devolved budget and ensure full financial compliance with year-end reporting.
To promote and implement the company's Equality & Diversity policies and procedures.
To ensure that the team understands and implements the company's Safeguarding and Child Protection policies and procedures.
To ensure that professional practice in the team is carried out to the highest standards and developed in line with the Company stated objectives of continual improvement in quality of its service to internal and external customers.
To ensure that all necessary documentation required by regulators is completed to a high standard and available for inspections, checks, or interviews as requested.
To maintain best practice by conducting regular quality assurance inspections.
To set, monitor, and evaluate standards at individual, team performance, and service quality to meet user and Company requirements while maintaining the highest standards.
