An opportunity has arisen due to service development for a highly motivated Podiatrist to join our team as an Advanced Podiatrist - Podiatric Surgery. The post holder will be expected to support the Consultant Podiatric Surgeons to assist in the delivery and development of the podiatric surgery service across the Trust.
The post includes Theatre support including the administration of local anaesthetic using advanced techniques as well as working in out-patient clinics.
Applicants must have the ability to work across professional and organisational boundaries with excellent communication skills at all levels as well as the commitment to be flexible to suit the needs of the service.
Minimum Requirements
* Bsc Podiatric Medicine
* Registered with Health and Care Professions Council
* Certificate in Local Analgesia
* POMS certification
* CPR certification
* The ability to meet the transport requirements of this post
* Previous experience of working within a Podiatric Surgery team would be desirable.
Main duties of the job
* Assessment and treatment of patients preoperatively and postoperatively in out-patient clinics.
* Admission and recovery of patients in the theatre setting.
* Administration and monitoring of local anaesthetic blocks using advanced techniques.
* Ordering to ensure stock levels of equipment and consumables used is maintained.
* Excellent communication skills and support to other Team members to ensure smooth running of theatre and out-patient sessions, contributing to positive patient experience.
Job Responsibilities
Overall Job Purpose
* To be part of a highly motivated team, providing a high standard of clinical care in a highly specialised area.
* To liaise closely with other team members to ensure cover is provided for annual leave and sickness to provide continuity for the podiatric surgery service.
* To conduct with or on behalf of the responsible Consultant podiatrist, outpatient clinics and theatre sessions, including post operative wound care and medical clinical clerking.
* To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, (both those referred for Podiatric Surgery and those in general podiatric care), and to organise this effectively with regard to patient, Service and professional priorities and to manage the clinical risk within that caseload.
* To diagnose and assess podiatric conditions and pathologies and subsequently design and deliver individualised care programmes for patients with a wide variety of clinical needs including those with chronic disease, neurological, vascular and functional problems and wounds.
* As part of the Podiatric Surgery Team, the Podiatry Service and Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust, contribute to the development of, and adhere to the Podiatry Service and Trusts policies, strategies and objectives.
Qualifications
* The post will require a degree or equivalent in Podiatric Medicine from an accredited educational establishment and considerable postgraduate study, training, and further qualification such as 'IRMER' X Ray certification and Therapeutic Injection Therapy. The post holder will be registered to practice with the Health Professions Council and have several years post qualification podiatric experience.
Experience and Knowledge
* Evidence of working in a Podiatric Surgery Department
* Able to plan & manage complex specialised caseload
* Evidence of mentoring Podiatrists participating in Podiatric Surgery Rotation Scheme
* Experience of advanced local anaesthesia techniques
* Experience of post-op patient care
* Evidence of supervising Podiatry assistant/ Podiatry Student/ Senior II
* Evidence of clinical development following graduation
* Ability to undertake complex biomechanical assessments
* Able to assess patients structural and functional abnormalities
* Ability to be able to produce chairside orthoses.
