Specialist Community Public Health Nurse - School Nurse
Following a retendering process, the children's service is due to be transferred to the new provider on the 1st of April 2025. Given this post sits within the transferring service, in line with the legislative requirements, the successful candidate will be part of the TUPE transfer along with other colleagues.
An excellent opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic, motivated, inspirational and innovative School Nurses to join our experienced School Health team within Children and Family Health Surrey. The post will be at Mole Valley borough of Surrey, based at Leatherhead Clinic.
You will be a highly skilled clinical practitioner, with leadership and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You will also have a strong approach to teamwork whilst also demonstrating the ability to work on your own initiative. You will have a good understanding of children, young people, and their families and the ability to deliver the Healthy Child Programme to a diverse population across specific geographical areas of Surrey.

Main duties of the job
1. Works collaboratively with the skill mixed school nurse team to ensure equity of service provision, promoting good practice and the sharing of resources.
2. Prioritises own work in line with areas of highest risk or client groups with greatest health need, delegating other work to the wider skill mixed team whilst providing the team with supervision and support.
3. Build and develop good working relationships with named schools and the wider multi-disciplinary team.
4. Work collaboratively with all relevant agencies to influence/develop policies which will enhance health.
5. Assist in the planning and may participate in the delivery of enuresis clinics and continence assessments.
6. Design, deliver and evaluate planned programmes of health promotion to CYP either through one-to-one contact, group work or through delivery of school-based PSHE lessons.
7. Identify and support CYP who have unmet health needs, providing support and targeted interventions and where necessary refer to specialist services.
8. Undertake health needs assessments for children who are looked after or from hard to reach groups.
9. Attend child protection conferences/core groups as required and participate in safeguarding supervision.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be a member of the 0-19 public health team delivering a service for children, young people, and their families. Supported by the clinical team lead, the post holder will carry continuing responsibility for the assessment of health needs, including the development, implementation, and evaluation/audit of evidence-based interventions. She/he will take responsibility for ensuring the quality and standard of care and delivery of an effective school nursing service to improve outcomes for the local school-aged population.
1. Facilitate good team working, through effective leadership skills, delegate and supervise the work of a skill mixed team to ensure efficient delivery of the 5-19 HCP.
2. Responsible for organisation, prioritisation and planning of health promotion activities, by assessing local health needs and school profiling to promote key health topics to meet All our health 2016 DH targets.
3. Make contact with children, young people (CYP) and their families in a variety of community settings e.g. schools, home, children centres, youth clubs.
4. Assist in the preparation, planning and delivery of the school-based childhood immunisation programme in accordance with local policies and procedures following appropriate immunisation training.
5. Take appropriate action in cases of suspected or actual child abuse, working within Surrey safeguarding children's code of practice and procedures.
6. Ensure that clear concise reports are written and that record keeping guidelines are adhered to. Participates in the monitoring of records of others within the 0-19 team.
7. Participate in meetings as appropriate.
8. Be prepared to be flexible within contracted hours.
9. In accordance with the needs of the service, undertake other duties as required.

* Current NMC registration part 3 register
* Registered nurse child branch
* Child protection supervisor
* Clinical supervision facilitator
* PSHE certificate
* Sexual Health training
* 2 day foundation immunisation training
Experience
* Evidence of personal development and acquisition of transferable skills relevant to the job description
* Understanding of current issues affecting the NHS and the CYP public health agenda
* Previous experience of leadership within a skill mixed team
* Experience of initiating and participating in clinical audit and research.
* Experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams
* Recent relevant experience of working with children, young people, and families
* Completion of safeguarding modules
* Immunisation training and/or experience
