We’re currently recruiting for Butchers to join our nationwide company in the Llanidloes area. This company is Britain’s biggest higher quality producer of sustainably produced quality animal products, so we think this is an excellent opportunity for the right candidates.
This is a full-time position, and the working hours are as follows:
• Monday – Friday
• 06:00 – End of production
All positions have a competitive hourly rate with enhanced pay for overtime worked and bonus payments for any Saturdays worked.
Main Roles and Responsibilities:
• Work with the slaughter team to process animals humanely, adhering to all regulatory and company standards.
• Perform skilled cuts to process carcasses into primal and retail cuts, according to customer and company specifications.
• Remove bones, sinew, and unwanted fat from cuts of meat, using a variety of knives and tools safely and effectively.
• Ensure all meat products meet quality standards for appearance, weight, and size, in line with customer and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in work areas and equipment, following strict hygiene and sanitation protocols.
• Adhere to health and safety regulations, including the use of protective equipment and safe handling of machinery.
• Monitor and record meat stock levels, reporting shortages and assisting with inventory as needed.
• Prepare specific meat cuts and portions based on customer or wholesale specifications, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Work closely with colleagues in the slaughterhouse to ensure efficient operations and continuous improvement.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Previous experience in butchery, especially within a slaughterhouse environment, is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in the safe and skilled use of knives and other cutting tools for precise cuts and boning.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding role, often requiring lifting, standing for long periods, and working in a cold environment.
• Familiarity with different cuts of meat and the ability to recognize and separate primal cuts accurately.
• High attention to detail to maintain quality and consistency in meat processing and portioning.
• Understanding of food safety, health, and safety regulations specific to slaughterhouse environments (e.g., Animal Welfare Act, UK Food Standards).
• Basic communication skills for team coordination and following instructions accurately.
• Certification in food safety and hygiene (Level 2 or higher) is an advantage.
• Willingness to wear protective clothing and adhere to strict hygiene and safety protocols
