MOD Boscombe Down is the home of ETPS and is a unique operational site that features the longest military runway in the UK, alongside other state-of-the-art facilities, such as The Night Vision test house, the environmental hangar and the UAS test hangar. What you’ll be doing as a Flight Dynamics and Performance Instructor
As a Flight Dynamics and Performance Instructor, you will harness your expertise to deliver exemplary academic instruction on topics of flight dynamics and performance to aspiring flight test professionals.
Your instructional and teaching abilities will be crucial in ensuring that we continue to deliver world class training to a wide range of students from around the world, whilst also contributing to a culture of collaboration and innovation within the team of highly qualified Flight Test Engineer Instructors (FTEIs), Test Pilot instructors (TPIs), and Theoretical Knowledge Instructors (TKIs).
You will deliver instructional sessions, both in person and on-line, on the theoretical knowledge aspects of a wide range of topics to aspiring and practising flight test professionals including Test Pilot, Flight Test Engineer and Evaluator Aircrew students from around the world.
You will play a leading role in the continuing high standards of aviation safety inherent in ETPS and QinetiQ Civil Flying Organisation (QCFO) flying operations.
There may be the opportunity to be involved with other test activity e.g. within the QinetiQ’s Flight Test Organisation (QFTO) contributing to developing solutions that enhance the operational effectiveness of the UK’s defence capabilities.
You will have a willingness to travel in both the UK and overseas to participate in course activities as required.
What we are looking for in a Flight Dynamics and Performance Instructor
1. You have an Aeronautical Engineering or Science degree coupled with at least at 5 years post graduate experience in either the study, teaching or application of Aerospace Engineering. Or graduated from one of the 4 UK MoD-recognised Test Pilot Schools (ETPS, USNTPS, USAFTPS or EPNER) or equivalent standard thereof.
2. You will contribute to the development of the ETPS course syllabi thus driving continuous improvement and assist in development of future ETPS and QinetiQ facilities for teaching flight test professionals.
3. You will possess a sound knowledge of aircraft performance, systems and stability & control and their testing and be skilled with using typical software used for the analysis of data in the flight test environment and be an experienced user of MATLAB and Simulink.
4. Hold a teaching/instructional qualification and have experience of using synthetics and simulation in flight test programmes.
5. Experience in some or all of the following would be advantageous civil or military flying qualities certification, rotary of fixed wing, developing or evaluating modern flight control systems, fast jet test and evaluation, heavy aircraft test and evaluation plus experience undertaking rotary wing test and evaluation and undertaking integrated avionics evaluation.
