We have almost 200 services around England – and nearly 3,500 amazing staff and volunteers who run them. Every year our services support around 125,000 people.

Complex Lives Substance Misuse Worker
Location: Weymouth
Contract: Fixed Term (until 31st March 2026)
About the role
You will work with the Dorset Rough Sleepers team and local partners to provide coordinated support to people who experience multiple exclusion and homelessness. You and your colleagues will be inspiring and motivating positive change for the most vulnerable in our County. By working diligently and proactively, as part of an integrated multi-agency team, you will apply intensive and co-created recovery solutions, enabling health & wellbeing improvements that are meaningful and sustainable.
You will be resourceful, able to articulate yourself appropriately on behalf of individuals and be resilient to change and challenges. If you are the successful candidate, you will be part of an exciting project that will bring new opportunities for recovery and health improvement to those most marginalised.
Service Provision:
* Early and assertive engagement meeting with individuals where they are living
* Excellent boundaries and ability to apply ‘co-production’ principles to any stage of treatment/recovery
* Responsible for managing dynamic risk and personal safety in a wide range of environments
* Robust understanding of both harm reduction and recovery principles and practice
* Able to think creatively about treatment options, changes and transitions in the context of a multi-disciplinary and agency approach
* Access supervision, group supervision and learning opportunities; being able to identify professional growth areas and support colleagues with their ongoing professional development
* Encourage individuals to become involved in the project and in community projects to enhance their experience and increase a sense of belonging
As a Complex Lives Substance Misuse Worker, you will be responsible for:
* Providing substance misuse specific knowledge and interventions, bringing the right treatment to people with complex lives, where they are.
* Ensuring the people who use our service are offered fair access to services, challenging discrimination and less favourable treatment and helping them to navigate existing systems by identifying any barriers they face to their preferred care.
About you
To succeed as a Complex Lives Substance Misuse Worker, you will ideally have:
* A passion for working with people who face multiple exclusion and homelessness. Your role will work collaboratively with other agencies to assist people facing complex and multiple disadvantages to navigate the existing systems. You will assertively challenge existing systems and processes to drive changes and improve outcomes for this client group.
* Experience and skills from frontline homelessness, health, criminal justice, mental health or drug and alcohol roles. This is an opportunity to bring about genuine change for vulnerable people and the services that support them.
* Excellent communication with a passion for solving problems. You will need to be proactive, compassionate, and empathetic but resilient and motivated.
* As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will work to confidently challenge those around you to think differently and to recognise the value of working collaboratively. You will work within the community with a degree of autonomy, to develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the local services available for people with multiple needs.
* You will provide support to build on people’s strengths and in a short time you will become, a consistent and trusted point of contact for the individual that you are supporting.
* You will be responsible for a caseload of individuals with multiple and complex needs. You will work with them to navigate their way through local services to bring about genuine change akin to helping individuals to transform their lives.
* Support will be person-centred, and follow the individual across changes to their personal circumstances, including periods of rough sleeping, changes in accommodation, or periods in institutions such as prison and hospital.
* You will be resourceful, able to articulate yourself appropriately on behalf of individuals and be resilient to change and challenges.
