Job summary This post is for a Consultant Haematologist with expertise in inherited bleedingdisorders and blood clots contributing to the provision of comprehensive andaccessible Haematology services across North Wales. Key priorities ofHaematology care at BCUHB include provision of services as near as possibleto the patient's home and to expand the treatment options available to patientslocally across North Wales.The post holder will be expected to provide a comprehensive clinical andlaboratory service in conjunction with the other consultant Haematologist's.This includes a rotating commitment to the inpatient service, weekly generaland specialised outpatient clinics, day case, ward and GP referral commitmentsand routine diagnostic laboratory commitments.The post holder will be expected to manage the full range of clinicalhaematology disorders including patients with leukaemia and lymphomaalongside inherited and acquired coagulation disorders. There are specialistnurses in thrombosis, haemophilia and haematology to assist with theseservices. The post holder will be expected to take part in the on-call rota, whichis 1 in 8 for the All North Wales Haematology on call. Main duties of the job Provide specialist haematologist services to the population served with special reference to the common cancers and agreed appropriate subspecialties and to be an active participant in each of these multidisciplinary teams. Develop a site specialist and research interest on both hospital sites. This will include developing clinical research and entering patients into appropriate national and international studies. Provide a weekly ward round for inpatient cover. Work closely with clinical consultant colleagues and to provide seamless haematologist care for all patients. Work closely with colleagues in other Divisions to assist in providing an efficient service for patients transferring between the different disciplines and during the patient's journey. Liaise with colleagues in Haematology, Oncology and Palliative Care to provide inpatient cover for haematology patients. Develop and participate in collaborative initiatives, having a high regard for clinical effectiveness and to the practice of evidence based medicine. Participate in audit and teaching. Have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
