Assist the Mortuaries Manager in ensuring provision of a high quality mortuary service in line with national and organisational protocols.
Provide and monitor efficient and effective body registration and release procedures, ensuring the correct recording of all information and documentation involving the body including completion of the mortuary register, release forms, cremation forms, burial orders and property receipts as required by statute.
Ensure all the relevant documentation including medical notes are present in order for the post-mortem to take place.Assist Consultant Pathologists and visiting Forensic Pathologists with all aspects of Autopsy work.
Assist in dealing with all aspects of "High Risk" cases Hazard grouþ 3 1 4 e,g; HIV, Hepatitis C, Creutzfeldt-Jakob.
Carry out reconstruction of the body after post-mortem examination.May be required to photograph foreign objects for legal cases. Organise X-rays for post-mortems when appropriate.
Carry out removal of cardiac pacemakers, radio-active implants and the deaCtivation and removal of defibrillators from the body prior to cremation.
Maintain post-mortem instruments and equipment in good_condition and working order. Ensure appropriate cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation is carried out on instruments,
Preparation of bodies for viewing and official identification, enabling bereaved relatives to view their loved ones as required offering advice, comfort and support.
Be responsible for the organisation and provision of containers and fixatives for further studies of tissues/fluids and for the packing and arranging transportation of tissues to other hospitals when required.
To be conversant with the current health and safety protocols, Standard Operating' Procedures, and all other protocols within the departmental code of practice.To ensure the security of the mortuary is maintained at all times.undertake training that may be deemed appropriate for personal and professional development within the post.The post holder will participate in an agreed on-call rota system giving full cover for the mortuary outside normal working hours; providing full on-call services to Her Majesty's Coroner when required.
In conjunction with the Mortuaries Manager, ensure the day to day work of the Mortuary and Post-mortem room is conducted in both an efficient and professional manner.
The post-holder will assist the Mortuary Manager {n the day to day supervision of staff including the altocation of work.Ensure sufficient stocks are availab!e for use within the department, through stock control and ordering systems.
To maintain a professional liaison with the various individuals and organisations concerned with the work of the mortuary e.g. coroners officers and police, undertakers, Regional Tissue Bank, bereavement officers, and the different faith representatives. When infectious hazards are know or suspected to notify funeral directors.
Ensure that atl relatives visiting the mortuary are treated with a caring and sympathetic manner, taking into account their cultural and religious requirements
Maintain the confidentiality of Council, Coroner, police, other agency and patient infomation, and use such information only as authorised for specific purposes. Report any concerns about the use of such information to your manager.
To undertake any other reasonable duties consistent with the grade as indicated by the Laboratory Service Manager or Clinical Head of Department.
