An exciting opportunity to join the Postgraduate Dental team in the South West as Associate Dean for Dental Foundation Training (DFT). The role of Associate Dean for DFT will have responsibility for the Dental Foundation Training programme within the South West and will be in a position to influence developments and meet future workforce needs.
The associate dean will work with and support the Postgraduate Dean in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions within DFT, aligned to the NHS England mandate. The Associate Dean will ensure that both national standards and also guidelines and standards established within the South West are met.
Main duties of the job
The Associate Dean will have a key role in the quality management of Dental Foundation Training across the geography, working collaboratively with local Training Programme Directors, other regional Associate Dental Deans and NHSE staff.
The post holder will be expected to support and drive forward the recommendations of Advancing Dental Care and the Dental Education Reform Programme within the South West.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Associate Dean for Dental Foundation Training is an important and influential post both regionally and nationally. The post holder will have responsibility for all Dental Foundation Training programmes and will be in a position to influence developments to meet future workforce needs.
Support recently qualified dentists to develop into safe vibrant independent performers to enter the NHS performer list through high quality foundation training. Strategically and operationally manage a team of Training Programme Directors (TPDs) to achieve these goals.
Representing the Directorate at both local and national meetings will be a requirement. Regional work will focus firmly upon improvement and the quality of patient and learner safety and experience, and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future.
The post holder will be an important member of the Dental Directorate Executive Team to support to develop and improve education and training delivery for the benefit of patient care.
