Job profile for Food Technician
North Oxfordshire Academy is looking to recruit a passionate and dedicated Technician to support the Food/Hospitality Department. The purpose of this role is to provide technical support to teaching staff and ensure a safe and clean working environment to facilitate high-quality teaching within the faculty.
The role is term time only, working 30 hours a week from 9 am – 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday. We are also flexible to a working pattern of 9 am – 3 pm.
About the role
As the Food Technician, you will be required to work flexibly and provide support in a variety of tasks. These will include (but not be limited to):
1. Assist teachers with preparation of resources and equipment for lesson delivery on a daily basis.
2. Assist in lessons as required during practical sessions.
3. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment in the classrooms.
4. Manage the storage of food items and equipment, ensuring that hygiene and safety regulations are strictly followed.
5. Support teachers during lessons by preparing materials, demonstrating techniques, and managing student behaviour.
6. Carry out regular checks and maintenance of equipment to ensure it is safe and fit for purpose.
7. Order and stock manage supplies and ingredients, keeping careful records of expenditures.
8. Assist with the implementation of all school policies and health and safety protocols.
About you
We need someone who:
1. Is highly organised and can independently manage their time effectively to prioritise and meet deadlines.
2. Has experience in a food role (preferably in a school setting).
3. A passion for education and the culinary arts.
4. Technical proficiency and experience with kitchen equipment.
5. Has excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
6. Has good oral and written communication skills.
7. Has the ability to handle difficult situations in a sensitive and empathic manner.
8. Has a can-do attitude and a sense of humour.
9. Demonstrates adaptability and the ability to multitask within a busy environment.
10. Has a high work ethic and wants to make a difference.
