The Band 6 Paediatric specialist nurse's role requires a passionate, highly motivated and experienced Nurse with excellent communication skills, who considers themselves first and always the child's advocate, someone who wishes to continue to develop their clinical and leadership skills, delivering high quality care to our children and young people and their families. This position is a development opportunity leading to a Band 7 role.
Main duties of the job
You will demonstrate safe critical decision making skills whilst working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of the child/young person and their family.
We work in collaboration with Alder Hey Cystic Fibrosis and Asthma Services.
We work closely with our CYP Transition Nurse and the adult respiratory team to provide effective transitional care for our young people.

Job responsibilities
We provide care for children with respiratory conditions within Warrington, Halton and some of the surrounding areas. We are based within Warrington Hospital. We also undertake a weekly nurse led clinic at Bath Street in Warrington and at the Halton Health Hub in Runcorn. As we work within the community providing home and school visits it is essential that the applicant holds a full drivers license and has access to a car.
Person Specification
* Experience in facilitation of quality improvements in the provision of Paediatric Respiratory Care
* Ability to work collaboratively to promote and improve the standards of Paediatric respiratory care across the locality
* Evidence of nursing children with respiratory conditions within the acute setting
* Demonstrates dissemination of own knowledge to others
* Evidence of personal and professional development within respiratory care
Qualifications
* RSCN/RNCB
* Willingness to undertake further personal and professional development
* Up to date with mandatory training and level 3 safeguarding training
* Degree in nursing or related subject or evidence of degree level learning in paediatric nursing
* Leadership and management course
* Evidence of further professional development
* Paediatric Respiratory course or equivalent, knowledge, skills and competency
Skills, Knowledge and competencies
* Expanded clinical skills, with interest in the care of children with respiratory conditions and their families
* Experience of participation in service development and implementation of change
* Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of diversity and human rights and the competencies appropriate to your role to support their diverse needs and human rights
* You have a good understanding of patient's communication, physical and emotional needs; can identify their individual needs and preferences, their changing needs and recognise and promote their independence
* You are able to communicate effectively to ensure care, treatment and support are not compromised
* CQC essential standards for quality and safety
Specific Role Requirements
* Have a knowledge and understanding of BTS/Sign guidelines
* Up to date clinical skills
* Knowledge of the National Asthma Care Bundle
* Be willing to undertake Spirometry training
* Knowledge and Experience of accessing portacath devices
* Undertaking audits and collating patient data
* Experience of caring for children with cystic fibrosis and their families
