An opportunity has arisen to join the Mid Essex STaRS Team. We are seeking someone with proven experience of working with service users who are alcohol dependent, preferably with experience of Medically Assisted Withdrawal from Alcohol.
Main Duties of the Job
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES CLINICAL
* To provide expertise and leadership in the field of alcohol issues, working autonomously within the guidelines and policies of the service, using evidence-based practice.
* Provide specialist advice and consultation to colleagues and others, communicating complex and sensitive information skillfully.
* Ensure the maintenance of up-to-date records on all clients according to professional and Trust guidelines.
* Work in conjunction with the Team Manager and the Operational Services Manager to ensure services are acceptable and accessible to diverse communities.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
The overall aim of the service is to improve outcomes for dependent and harmful drinkers, with an emphasis on physical and mental health.
* Alcohol specialist intervention with inpatients as required.
* Training in alcohol issues/Information and Brief Advice (IBA) within A&E and other departments.
* Professional input to establish an effective pathway for acute inpatients requiring alcohol services.
* Act as an alcohol champion within the acute setting.
* Give advice on care and detoxification of patients with alcohol dependence.
* Assessment for harmful drinkers or referral to external organisations.
* Support for relatives/carers of referred patients.
* Referral and signposting for patients into Tier 2, 3 (or 4) services post-discharge.
* Identify and support patients admitted frequently for alcohol misuse.
* Provide training in alcohol issues and IBA to appropriate clinical staff.
Person Specification
* Experience of working with service users who are alcohol dependent.
* Experience with alcohol detox.
* Experience working with opiate dependence.
