Due to our continued work winning success, we currently have a new exciting opportunity for a Senior Operational SHEQ Manager to come and join us based in the Midlands. You will assist in the management in the safety, health, environmental & quality matters within OCU Energy and the wider OCU Group through the provision of professional advice and solutions, ensuring compliance with internal & external requirements and best practice.
You will be responsible for a broad range of OCU Energy business units including (but not limited to); OCU Hornbill, OCU Integrum, OCU Modus, OCU Trenchless, OCU Evolution and OCU Energy Major Projects. The role will involve sustained engagement with all levels of personnel of the business units for which the post- holder is responsible. To develop (where needed) and implement SHEQ best practice, ensuring undertakings comply with geographically relevant Statutory Provisions, OCU Group requirements, approved codes of practice and guidance in relation to employment and service provision. To work proactively with all levels of management, so to establish and maintain a safe system of work and a safe environment for all those working on behalf of OCU Group and the third parties with whom it interacts.
1. Roles and Responsibilities:
2. • To act as principal SHEQ point of contact for the assigned business units (internal and external).
3. • Foster sustained positive relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external)
4. Collaborating with management for early engagement prior to project mobilization, throughout construction phase and post construction.
5. • As agreed with the Head of Department, identify the need for SHEQ resource, source suitable candidates, appoint and onboard.
6. • Responsible for dedicated OCU Energy SHEQ personnel and for liaison with OCU Group Regional SHEQ support, as required (as defined within the OCU Energy SHEQ Org Chart). Acceptable performance standards shall be defined and managed for all direct reports.
7. • To support with Pre- Qualification Questionnaires & tender submissions.
8. • To offer positive visible leadership at all times, to positively promote the OCU brand and endorse core Group requirements.
9. • To advise and assist in the planning and promotion of SHEQ programs, establishing a suitable mechanism in which to implement.
10. • To support in the successful retention of Group ISO accreditation and associated registrations, for example (but not limited to) LRQA NERS.
11. • To interpret & advise on the implementation of OCU Group policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
12. • Ensure that the requirements of the OCU Group Integrated Management System are followed accordingly, to
13. ensure that the contracts/projects for which you are responsible are compliant.
14. • Discharge specific duties for SHEQ matters as defined by OCU Group Policy and/or Procedure, efficiently and effectively.
15. • Monitor the SHEQ performance on the contracts/projects under your control and take such steps as are necessary to improve the performance.
16. • In a format agreed with the Head of Department, instigate suitable data reporting mechanisms and compile SHEQ data dashboards for all works within the area of responsibility. Compile and submit monthly KPIs within the required timescales.
17. • Carryout out regular site, depot and CDM audits/tours and record findings in a manner agreed with the Head of Department. Ensure all opportunities for improvement and actions raised are managed through to closure.
18. • Through individual and line management activities, ensure all projects are subject to suitable planned arrangements and defined controls are implemented.
19. • Sustained customer liaison, attending meetings as and when required, prepare and deliver presentation accordingly.
20. • Undertake Contractor on-boarding evaluations.
21. • Investigate the root causes of accidents, incident and near miss occurrences and the circumstances leading up to the occurrence. Propose and implement preventative measures, compile required report(s) and forward them to the Head of Department in a timely manner. Effectively manage the OCU One system ensuring records are robustly compiled, managed and closed in accordance with OCU Group

Qualifications / Competency:
• NCRQ level 6/NVQ level 6/NEBOSH diploma
• Minimum 5 years’ experience working in the utilities sector (Power Sector preferred)
• Minimum 5 years’ experience working within live substations.
• Experience working with management systems and the NERS Accreditation (preferred)
• Experience working with/for DNO/IDNO`s.
• EUSR or CSCS in general health and safety
• Proficient in Accident/Incident investigation including robust RCA.
• Proficient in compiling documented information and data.
