An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Radiology Nursing Team, to join the Radiology Day Unit and interventional service based mostly at The James Cook University Hospital to employ a band 5 staff nurse. This post may involve rotational work to Friarage Hospital in Northallerton.
We would welcome applicants with nursing experience; however, full training will be given, so experience is not essential. An induction programme and competency training pack specific to the area supports new staff members. A supernumerary period allows staff to build confidence and skills and allows for clinical supervision with an allocated mentor.
Working as part of a caring and passionate nursing team, you will responsibly deliver planned, direct patient care to a high standard in accordance with the Trust's established nursing procedures. Leading by example, you will promote the safeguarding, wellbeing, and interests of all patients and their families whilst taking personal responsibility for ensuring the needs of patients are achieved.
We are a team committed to delivering and maintaining high-quality patient care and are looking to attract nurses who share our goal. In return, we will support ongoing professional development by way of full preceptorship and provide opportunities for the individual to develop their clinical skills.
Main duties of the job
Applicants must demonstrate effective communication skills, be enthusiastic, well-motivated, and share a commitment to team working.
You will be expected to:
1. Telephone pre-assessments to establish patient suitability for day case procedures.
2. Provide nursing care for day case patients undergoing procedures such as vascular intervention, renal, lung, liver biopsies pre & post procedure within the Bill Leen Radiology Day Unit.
3. Work in the Interventional theatres alongside Consultant Radiologists, Radiographers, and Advanced Practitioners as a Scrub assistant for patients undergoing complex procedures.
4. Assist with biopsies, Drainage tube insertions, Nephrostomy, and Percutaneous Transhepatic Cholangiograms (PTC).
5. Support patient care and service delivery.
6. Participate in the writing of Protocols pertaining to the role.
7. On-call out of hours commitment, including weekends, bank holidays, and overnight.
These duties are not exhaustive of the job role but give a good indication of the expectations of the post holder.
Informal visits are essential to appreciate the specialised work of Radiology nursing. We encourage interested parties to arrange to spend some time in the department to fully appreciate the nurse's role in this speciality.
Please note this post will close at sufficient applicants.
