Our client is a well-established regional contractor in the North East, currently seeking an experienced and motivated Estimator to join the team. You will be working on a diverse pipeline of road, paving, and other civil engineering projects across the region. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of construction processes, costs, and materials, with a proven track record of delivering accurate and competitive estimates.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Preparing accurate cost estimates: Analyse project specifications, drawings, and contracts to develop comprehensive estimates for roads, paving, and other civil works.
2. Tender preparation and submission: Prepare and submit tenders, ensuring all necessary documentation and pricing strategies are included to secure new business.
3. Cost planning and management: Collaborate with project teams to manage cost plans, ensuring budgets are adhered to throughout the project lifecycle.
4. Supplier and subcontractor liaison: Obtain quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, negotiate pricing, and assess their capabilities to ensure quality and cost efficiency.
5. Risk management: Identify potential project risks and assess the financial impact to ensure estimates reflect realistic outcomes.
6. Market research: Keep up to date with industry trends, pricing, and materials to provide competitive and informed estimates.
7. Collaboration: Work closely with the pre-construction, commercial, and delivery teams to ensure a smooth transition from estimate to execution.
8. Reporting and documentation: Provide detailed reports on estimates, including breakdowns of labor, material, and equipment costs, and track actual project costs against the original estimate.
Qualifications and Skills:
9. Proven experience as an Estimator in the construction industry, ideally within civil engineering (roads, paving, etc.).
10. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
11. Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
12. Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
13. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
14. Knowledge of current building regulations and industry standards.
15. Strong commercial awareness.
