A new opportunity has arisen at The Perse School for a reliable and proactive person to join our Caretaking team as an ‘after hours’ Gate Porter. The successful candidate will provide professional and welcoming assistance to visitors while overseeing the security and safety of the school environment, with a strong focus on controlling access to the premises. As the first point of contact for visitors, the Gate Porter ensures that all individuals entering the school are authorised and follow proper procedures.
Key Responsibilities
• Visitor Management: Greet visitors, monitor arrivals/departures, liaise with staff, and enforce entry protocols.
• Security: Operate CCTV, monitor entry/exit points, and respond to alarms. Maintain secure premises by locking/unlocking and addressing security breaches.
• Health & Safety: Ensure safety procedures are followed, raise alarms in emergencies, and assist emergency services.
• Event Support: Manage parking, assist with external hires, and oversee security for school events.
• Caretaking Duties: Move furniture/equipment, deliver mail, and maintain clean entrance areas.
Skills & Attributes
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• High attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Physically fit for tasks requiring manual handling and prolonged periods of movement.
• Professional, reliable, and proactive with a “can-do” attitude.
Desirable Qualifications/Experience
• First Aid or Health & Safety certification.
• Prior experience in customer-facing or educational environments.
• Prior experience of dealing with security.
• Prior experience of lone working.
Terms and Conditions
• Hours: Term-time only (35 weeks/year), Monday to Friday, 15:00–22:00 (32.5 hours/week).
• Salary: £16,563 per annum, pro rata (based on £24,237 FTE).
