Job summary We are seeking to recruit a Locum Consultant General Physician with an interest in Acute Medicine to support our acute medical services as we continue transform Acute Medicine at Morriston Hospital. There has been considerable investment in recent years in our acute services, including the creation of a £3.5 million purpose built acute medical unit in 2022 and the plan for a £7m new acute frailty unit and referrals hub to open in Autumn 2024, with the initiation of a frailty specific intake. The post holder will be required to support out of hours work as a part of an acute physician rota, support the future development of an integrated Same Day Emergency Care service, provide senior clinical leadership to patients in the assessment unit and oversee the medical intake. Opportunities to work in another speciality of your choice will be available. Areas of subspecialty interest that would be considered are Same Day Emergency Care, sepsis, management of the deteriorating patient and other areas aligned to Acute Care. Within the Division of Medicine, the post holder will join a team of 42 Consultant Physicians at Morriston. There are daily specialty "retrieval visits" to the AMU by consultants in Cardiology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Respiratory Medicine and Stroke Medicine. We are supportive of flexible working arrangements and will consider annualised hours job plans, part time working or alternative shift pattern working. Main duties of the job The Acute Care Physician will focus on assessing, diagnosing, and treating various medical conditions mainly on adult patients who needs urgent medical needs or are cases of emergencies. The Acute Unit operates 24/7 and is staffed by a multidisciplinary clinical team focused on acute medical care with the objective of providing early expert assessment and treatment of acute medical illnesses. Consultants and Doctors working in Acute Medicine are responsible for the assessment, investigation, diagnosis, and management of patients who develop severe conditions quickly which also can be life-threatening. This will be a role to develop and improve the activity within acute medicine and also acute medicine within the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC).
