An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for an experienced, dynamic and self-motivated registered nurse to help lead the nursing team and develop services in Interventional Radiology Theatres on the City site of NUH as Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse.
Main Duties of the Job
The successful candidate will support the Band 7 Sister to lead a team of staff to provide a high quality service; ensuring excellent standards of patient care are delivered and maintained before, during and after having a procedure in Interventional Radiology Theatres. They will facilitate the IR outreach service to ensure all inpatient and elective patients for interventional radiology are fully prepared for their procedure.
You will be an effective role model, delivering regular clinical care. The provision of clinical and non-clinical governance is an essential part of the role.
We require an enthusiastic and conscientious team player with excellent communication skills who is well motivated and reliable. Previous experience/current experience within Interventional Radiology Theatres is desirable.

Job Responsibilities
1. Support the Band 7 Sister to lead a team of staff to provide a high quality service; ensuring excellent standards of patient care are delivered and maintained in Interventional Radiology Theatres.
2. Regularly take charge of the department as IR Co-ordinator, organising and planning theatre lists and ensuring the smooth running of the department.
3. Be an effective leader and role model, providing regular direct clinical care and using experience to support the implementation of both clinical and non-clinical governance.
4. Assist in providing staff development.
5. Work flexibly as a member of the department team and in support of the department Sister/Charge Nurse to ensure standards are maintained, evaluated, and improved where necessary.
6. Utilise and integrate evidence into practice.
7. Work flexible hours, particularly covering a late finish, and providing an out of hours on-call nursing service as required by the department.
8. Understand local safety rules, protective clothing and equipment, including wearing a lead apron for several hours at a time while working clinically.
9. Administer IV sedation to patients undergoing specific procedures, such as trans-jugular liver biopsies, PTCs (Percutaneous trans hepatic cholangiogram) and Radiological Inserted Gastrostomy.
10. Assist the Radiologist as scrub nurse with invasive radiological procedures such as angioplasty, embolisation, stenting and biopsies.
11. Have an active role in the scheduling of elective patients, ensuring that patients are fully prepped and prioritised appropriately prior to their admission by attending weekly schedule meetings and collaborating with the IR booking co-ordinator.
Person Specification
Training & Qualifications
* Competent in medicines management
* Diploma or degree in health/nursing related studies
* Evidence of continuing professional development/reflective profile
* Completion of all local competency packages or has undertaken WINW packages relevant to role
* Formal leadership and management training
Experience
* Experience of delivering nursing care to a group of patients
* Supervision of non-registered staff and students
* Ability to manage the clinical area effectively and efficiently
* Ability to convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to patients, carers and staff
* Previous experience at band 5
* Recent or current experience within the specialty
* Demonstrate involvement in link nurse or project work
* Audit or research within the clinical area
* Provide staff with feedback on their individual performance and conduct appraisals

* Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
* Demonstrate basic IT skills
* Produce timely, accurate written and electronic records and documents
