Major Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Development Chef to join an established FMCG business.
As part of the ongoing growth plan, the Development Chef will be an integral part of the NPD and Manufacturing team. We are looking for someone who is passionate about food, especially baked goods and patisserie.
Responsibilities of the Development Chef
* Ensure all recipes can be produced on a medium to large-scale volume while maintaining consistency and quality, developing new and innovative products.
* Optimise ingredients and procedures to minimise production inaccuracies.
* Support innovation and development of new recipes with costings and ingredients.
* Monitor trends and develop recipes in accordance with customer demands and responses.
* Manage and maintain the ongoing development of new and existing quality products.
* Work with the NPD department to take products from concept to launch within the operation's current capabilities.
* Follow meticulously detailed NPD processes.
* Ensure all recipes, information, and costs are kept updated in line with internal and external tastings as part of ongoing recipe and process development.
* Review current products, update products, processes, and commercials.
* Work closely with production teams to take new products into production and assist with existing products, reviewing processes and problem-solving.
* Conduct shelf-life testing.
* Maintain excellent standards in the NPD kitchen, involving collection of ingredients and day-to-day housekeeping.
* Monitor processes to ensure compliance with all health and regulation requirements.
* Engage with customers through product presentations, cooking, and presenting.
What are we looking for as a Development Chef?
* Relevant industry qualifications.
* Previous NPD and EPD experience is desirable.
* Experience in a fast-paced environment with short lead times.
* Ability to work from very specific briefs to innovated new concepts.
* Must be a passionate foodie with outstanding food knowledge and the ability to demonstrate natural flair with a good palate.
* At least 2 years of experience working within a professional kitchen, restaurant, or development, ideally in patisserie, along with a professional baking or patisserie qualification (especially dough).
* Good customer presentation skills.
