The role
The Financial Times is hiring a social media video producer to join our social media team in the London newsroom on a 12 month fixed term contract.
We are seeking a journalist who can think visually and is passionate about social media, making short form videos and breaking down the day’s big stories to a global audience. The content you produce will translate the best of our journalism to a younger audience, jumping on TikTok and Instagram trends when opportunities arise.
The successful candidate will be an all-rounder, as comfortable producing and editing videos about financial news as covering world news, politics, opinion and culture stories. You’ll be bursting with ideas on how to engage an audience aged 18-35 and will also be confident in scripting, shooting and editing short form videos based on existing FT stories or tied to emerging news topics.
This is a collaborative role where you will be working with our existing social video producer and the wider video and social media teams to help us increase our global social media reach and deepen engagement with our audiences. You will be proactive and confident at reaching out to new people, training up reporters and editors in the newsroom to be TikTok presenters.
This role is a hybrid one, with the successful applicant expected to work from our London office at least three days a week. They should also be willing to be flexible when big stories break, working some evenings or weekends to get news clips published in a timely manner.
Responsibilities:
* Plan and execute the FT’s TikTok and Instagram coverage of news events around the world.
* Keep a close eye on the engagement data and use it to inform your work going forward.
* Collaborate with the wider social media and video teams, and reporters and editors in the newsroom to identify opportunities for great video content and assist with forward planning efforts.
* Train up colleagues to be presenters, and if in a foreign bureau, to shoot their own footage.
* Be proactive keeping up with social media trends and keen to experiment with any new features TikTok, and other key social platforms, roll out.
* Monitor and respond to comments on videos as the FT.
Required experience:
* Track record of producing engaging videos for TikTok or Instagram and demonstrable passion for the platform.
* Experience either creating and editing social media videos for a news organisation or a brand, or able to demonstrate your skills on a personal account.
* Strong news judgment and understanding of the FT’s journalism and voice.
* Confident using Premiere Pro and AfterEffects to edit video.
* Experience making motion graphics.
* Comfortable covering a range of topics including: companies, markets, the economy, politics, world news, opinion and features.
* Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
* Comfortable working under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
* Experience working in a newsroom would be beneficial, but not essential.
* Some experience lighting interview settings, basic sound mixing and colour correcting.
Please submit your application by the end of the day, Tuesday 25th February 2025.
