Astroscale UK & Europe are seeking a Ground Systems Team Lead, who will play a key leading role in the ground segment team, with a high level of autonomy and responsibility including providing technical expertise and mentoring team members. You will be involved in the whole ground segment development process, from conceptual design to maintenance. As well as supporting the development of all the infrastructure and software on ground that is critical to safely operate a mission. This is a key role with a critical responsibility to efficiently interface between the Mission & Systems team and the Operations team This gives you the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the ground segment, as well as participating to operational activities in the Astroscale control centre. Responsibilities Design, develop, validate and maintain Ground Segment SW subsystems needed for operating Astroscale missions. Generate and update the SW and other project related documentation. Participate in the design of the systems including: Requirements capture, definition, tailoring, analysis and conversion to use cases and stories. Development support and solution testing. Definition of Software Engineering approaches to apply in the developments Participate and or support the Ground Segment verification, validation and integration. Support in the Mission System Test and or Simulation campaigns. Support the Operations team to resolve technical issues and providing advice on best practice, as well as delivering any training required on the ground systems. Participate in/lead the development of ground systems including Mission Control System, Mission Planning System, Ground Stations Interface System Interface with the external suppliers’ teams acting as a Product Owner or Technical Officer and provide support to the development team during the ground segment development phase Follow the Agile (SCRUM) methodology to ensure implementation of the requirements and maintain the schedule Perform maintenance of the ground systems while being the interfacing point between the operations team and the developers to resolve technical issues Line management of team members. This includes helping resolve blockers to their work, prioritising their work, conducting appraisals and conducting probation reviews. Planning the technical work for the team members. Assigning tasks appropriately and effectively taking team member skillsets and abilities in to account Overall accountability for the teams technical output. Identify skillset and headcount/labour shortfalls in context of current and upcoming team workload Work with the group manager to create a plan together to address resource shortfalls (including permanent hiring, temporary hiring and/or outsourcing solutions) Support recruitment by reviewing CVs and conducting interviews for positions in your team Create a plan to address the development needs of the existing team members Essential Skills University degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or other relevant engineering discipline. At least 3-5 years of industry experience in software development and software engineering. At least 3-5 years of industry experience in the design and development of satellite user or ground segment products and technologies. Knowledge of C/C++, Java and or Python programming languages. Basic Linux system administration, shell scripts, make, etc. Development on Linux systems. Experience with Mission Control Systems, preferably based on SCOS-2000. Overall knowledge of the main components of a ground segment and how they interact. Work in a team as well as independently. Team leadership – ability to lead small team of software engineers. Knowledge of ECSS standards. Fluency in spoken and written English. Desirable skills Experience or knowledge of Scrum as being part of development team or Product Owner.
