Biomedical Support Worker Specimen Reception - Cellular Pathology
An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and passionate individual to join the team as Specimen Reception Biomedical Support Worker in the Department of Cellular Pathology. Primarily based in Bexley Wing at St James Hospital, the post holder will be part of a team responsible for receipt, labelling, and booking in of diagnostic samples.
The department operates 7:30 am to 7:30 pm Monday to Saturday receiving samples from across LTH, local GPs, and beyond. It is essential that the post holder has excellent IT skills and experience in data handling in order to organise relevant documentation. Experience of working in a healthcare work environment is desirable. The post holder must possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels and a flexible and pro-active approach.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Collect, deliver, receive and assist in the processing of clinical diagnostic specimens for biological testing.
2. Undertake routine clinical technical investigations as required, which may involve operating complex equipment following standard operating procedures.
3. Enter and retrieve patient demographic details using the laboratory information system.
4. Work as a member of the departmental team, communicating effectively with colleagues and other healthcare staff.
5. Perform a range of routine tasks in support of biomedical, scientific, and medical staff.
6. Participate in the quality and improvement agenda of the department.

The department provides Histopathology, Andrology, Immunohistochemistry, Muscle, Molecular, Non-Gynae Cytology, and mortuary services for Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and surrounding primary care centres. We are a well-equipped and innovative department, processing circa 58,000 surgical cases, 2,000 autopsy cases, and 6,000 non-gynaecological cytology cases per annum. Job Requirements
