We are currently inviting applications for a 8 PA Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to work within the Paediatric Liaison and Urgent Care Team of Westminster CAMHS (CNWL) based at St Mary's Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic, innovative and dedicated child and adolescent psychiatrist with creative ideas for service development, keen to work with dynamic and passionate consultant colleagues and MDT clinicians and to collaborate with paediatricians, schools, children’s services and allied health professionals.
You will be working alongside friendly and supportive consultant colleagues. St Mary's Hospital is a highly renowned hospital and the major acute hospital for north west London. The hospital provides care across a wide range of specialties and runs one of four major trauma centres in London in addition to its 24/7 A&E department.
You will be working in collaboration with an innovative and outstanding paediatric service in St Mary's Hospital. There are opportunities for teaching and training, for example as part of the higher training scheme and strong links with Imperial College London to develop research interests.

Main duties of the job
This is a newly created post which includes five paediatric liaison programmed activities for consultation-liaison to St Mary's Hospital, and seeing local children and adolescents in the outpatient service, and crucially to lead on the development of a more comprehensive hospital liaison service for under 18-year-olds in collaboration with the Imperial College NHS Trust.
The post will also provide daily consultant leadership to the Urgent Care Team (UCT) for Westminster CAMHS. This is an 8 PAs post, thus it includes 5 Paediatric Liaison PAs, and 3 PAs in the Urgent Care Team. Junior medical input to the Westminster UCT is accessed via the duty rota at Westminster CAMHS, which includes two speciality trainees and two core trainees. They may also input to the paediatric liaison team.
The base is at Westminster CAMHS, but the clinical work may be done at St Mary's Hospital. The post holder will provide daily consultant input to support the Urgent Care Team covering St Mary's Hospital, as well as support the daytime consultant rota for Westminster CAMHS (pro rata). This role will be supported by the other consultants in the service during leave periods.
They will also contribute to the CAMHS OOH consultant rota for CNWL. The postholder will be expected to liaise with NHS England, Commissioners and Tier 4 services when referral to Tier 4 is indicated and to liaise with Tier 4 services and contribute to CRAFT, CETR and CPA meetings.
About us
Central and North West London (CNWL) specialises in caring for people with a wide range of mental and physical health needs and is one of the largest mental health trusts in England. Each CAMHS service has its own local management structure: Westminster CAMHS has a Lead Psychiatrist, Therapies lead and team manager who work closely with the inner boroughs service manager. Each sub-team has a psychiatry and therapy lead and they, together with the team and service manager form the local senior management team which meets monthly. The postholder will be part of the SMT. The Westminster CAMHS team is well established and staffed by a large multi-disciplinary team of clinicians. We aim to provide an accessible, flexible and responsive local service for patients and professionals working with children in the area using a range of therapeutic interventions including behaviour, systemic, CBT, IPT-A, DBT, psycho-dynamic and group therapies as well as psychopharmacological approaches. Westminster CAMHS is a Tier 3 service, accepting referrals from GPs, paediatrics, schools and Children's Services. The service has active service user groups for young people and parents. The team has a monthly CPD session and business meeting, a monthly local consultants meeting and a monthly senior management meeting which the postholder will be part of.

Job description Job responsibilities
General duties
* To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
* To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively and maintain accurate, contemporaneous medical notes in line with the Trust record keeping policy.
* To participate in the service and business planning activity for the locality and, as appropriate, for the whole mental health service.
* To attend and participate in the internal CPD activities and maintain up to date CPD activities.
* To attend the monthly consultant meetings and other relevant professional meetings.
* To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12 (2) and AC approval.
* To participate annually in job plan review.
* To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services, sharing with other consultant colleagues the medical contribution to management.

Clinical and management duties
* To provide leadership in the paediatric liaison team in Westminster CAMHS.
* To provide the continuity of consultant input for young people admitted to paediatric and medical wards and, if required, be the responsible clinician (RC).
* To contribute to the paediatric liaison service for children and adolescents based at St Mary Hospital.
* To provide consultation and medical input to children and adolescents from the Westminster area with physical illness/injury and significant mental health problems, and medically unexplained symptoms, or other relevant problems, who may be patients of St Mary's Hospital or other paediatric Hospitals or Departments such as GOSH, Evelina Hospital etc, who may be seen in the Westminster CAMHS clinic currently at Woodfield Road.
* To contribute to the further development of the paediatric liaison service.
* The appointee will take a consultant lead role in the local urgent care team.
* To provide consultation and medical input to the weekly clinical review meeting for UCT.
* To provide psychiatric assessments when required and support the Urgent Care Team with emergency work at St Mary's Hospital, 7-day follow-ups, and any short-term interventions offered.
* To lead on the development of the Tier 3.5 service (intensive short-term crisis intervention) for Westminster.
* To contribute to the monthly senior management meetings for the local CAMHS as well as the crisis pathway.
* To take a lead role, together with the urgent care team lead, in developing joint crisis pathways and protocols with the acute hospital.
* To lead on the development of interface working between UCT and other CAMHS sub-teams as well as ACTS (Adolescent Community Treatment Service).
* To facilitate monthly consultation group with the out-of-hours team together with other UCT consultants.
* To attend interface meetings with the St Mary's Hospital emergency department and contribute to professional meetings for young people at the hospital, including bed escalation meetings.
* To provide clinical supervision to psychiatry trainees and speciality doctors contributing to the work of the UCT, paediatric liaison service, and other Westminster Teams when required.
* To contribute (pro rata) to Westminster CAMHS consultant duty rota within working hours.
* To offer teaching to CAMHS colleagues and trainees and medical students.
* To work together and support the team lead in providing activity reports and contribute to providing presentation of the work to senior management meetings and commissioners. This may include the North West London Provider Collaborative and the CNWL CAMHS Central Care Quality and Performance Management Group (CQPMG).
Person Specification Education, Qualifications And Training Essential
* Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practice.
* Section 12 MHA Approved.
* Approved Clinician status (or undertaking to obtain this on taking up the post).
* Inclusion on the Specialist Register (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date).
