Senior Urban Designer
📍 Location: London or Slough (Hybrid – 2–3 days in the office)
🕒 Full-Time | Salary – Up to £49,999 DOE
Are you an experienced and visionary Senior Urban Designer ready to lead transformational projects? We’re looking for a passionate individual to join our growing team and take charge of small to medium-scale urban design initiatives—from initial concept to construction oversight.
You’ll combine creativity, technical skill, and leadership to deliver people-centred, sustainable, and inclusive urban spaces. Working across multidisciplinary teams, you’ll also support large-scale projects and mentor junior designers to help bring bold ideas to life.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Lead the design and delivery of small to medium urban design projects including public realm enhancements, mixed-use developments, town centre regeneration, and climate-resilient places.
Contribute to all project stages—site analysis, concept creation, technical delivery (RIBA Stages 3 & 4), stakeholder engagement, and construction oversight.
Collaborate with architects, planners, engineers, and key stakeholders to develop high-quality urban strategies and designs.
Produce masterplans, site layouts, design codes, and technical documentation using AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and other relevant tools for 3D modelling and visualisations.
Present concepts to clients, community groups, and partners to gain support and approvals.
Ensure compliance with relevant planning policies, design standards, and sustainability best practices.
Carry out site visits, feasibility studies, and on-site inspections to ensure projects are being delivered to the highest standard.
Mentor junior team members and line manage up to two staff, supporting their growth and development.
Stay up to date with trends in urbanism, placemaking, mobility, and climate-adaptive design.
What We’re Looking For:
A passion for creating vibrant, inclusive, and future-ready places.
A Master’s degree in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a related discipline.
Chartered membership with a relevant professional body (or working toward it).
5+ years of urban design experience, with a strong portfolio of built and conceptual work across a range of project types.
Confidence in site planning, public realm design, development frameworks, and neighbourhood-scale design.
Excellent software skills including AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and 3D visualisation tools.
Strong understanding of planning policy, sustainability frameworks, CDM, and H&S regulations.
Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to manage budgets, timelines, and resources effectively while delivering top-quality results.
A collaborative and proactive attitude, with experience leading and mentoring junior designers.
