Job Summary: The Pharmacy Drug Diversion Coordinator provides oversight and direction for the reduction and risk in controlled substance management through the execution of inventory recovery and diversion/theft prevention and reduction programs. This position will protect assets and work to prevent pharmacy controlled substance inventory loss through comprehensive audits of inventory, random reconciliations of inventory for controlled substance medications, and analysis of trends. The diversion specialist is accountable for all aspects of drug diversion education, prevention, monitoring, investigating, and reporting at Women & Infants Hospital.
Specifications:
1. Must be a graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy and a registered pharmacist in the State of Rhode Island or eligible for State licensure.
2. A minimum of two years’ experience in a hospital or four years in a comparable setting required.
3. Thorough understanding of medication management systems and technologies required.
4. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
5. Experience in drug diversion prevention processes preferred.
6. Experience in investigations, interviewing witnesses, and investigative report processing.
7. Strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
8. Excellent public speaking and teaching abilities.
9. Ability to facilitate change processes and work collaboratively with and lead diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
10. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
11. Proficient with computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
12. Knowledge and understanding of federal and state medication handling and controlled substances regulations.
13. Familiarity with drug diversion-related standards and regulatory requirements, including the Medication Management standards of The Joint Commission, DEA, EPA, and FDA regulations; and the relevant Conditions of Participation from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
14. Quality control or lead technician experience preferred.
15. Familiarity with the causes, symptoms, recognition, and treatment of drug addiction and human behavioral assessment.
16. Previous experience in trending and analyzing data.
17. Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), possess good interpersonal skills, and be proficient in the English language.
18. Training in interview techniques preferred.
