About The Role
As MWH Treatment embarks on its new journey as one of Northumbrian Water's (NWL) capital delivery partners (part of NWL's new Living Water Enterprise Organisation), we are looking to strengthen our Engineering team with a Senior Design Manager. Based predominantly in the Essex & Suffolk region, you will report directly to the Regional Discipline Lead (Design Management). This role will necessitate traveling to other MWH regions initially to embed and support your career within the MWH Treatment culture.
Our programme of work, across a variety of water and wastewater schemes is expected to be in the region of £280M.

Key responsibilities:
1. Be committed to excellence in Health & Safety (H&S) in design, complying fully with relevant local specifications, codes, rules, regulations and requirements and all relevant H&S legislation.
2. To ensure that H&S hazards are identified and managed and that all residual risks are communicated effectively to all stakeholders.
3. To lead the Design team in delivery of their responsibilities and to ensure a focused approach to meet customer requirements and project objectives.
4. To be accountable for the expenditure, drive efficiency and manage the overall outturn costs for design by producing design deliverables within the allocated resource hours and by key dates.
5. To organise all elements of design, documenting it in the Design Management Plan and preparing monthly status update reports as necessary.
6. To attend and contribute to all relevant programme, project, and technical meetings.
7. To ensure that the technical solution is produced to outperform on costs, whilst maintaining quality standards and delivery on time.
8. To provide, where required, technical support during construction, assembly, and commissioning stages.
9. To ensure that all technical work is undertaken to the correct standards and specifications, following the appropriate systems of work and quality assurance.
10. To contribute to achieving sustainability targets, particularly by reducing embodied and operational Carbon Footprints of solutions.
11. To communicate and work effectively with people from other partner organisations, backgrounds, and disciplines, utilising their knowledge and experience and add to this with your own experience and knowhow.
12. To recognise and provide exceptional customer service both internally and with partners and externally with the client, their customers, and the general public.
13. Represent the whole of the MWH business and RSK Group of companies in all client contacts and promote the MWH / RSK reputation.
14. Maintain a positive and solution-oriented approach to work, providing open and honest feedback.
15. Undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required, and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this role.
16. In all internal and external contact, present a professional and positive image of MWH Treatment as well as maintaining mutually constructive, positive and beneficial relationships.
17. Take all reasonable steps to ensure appropriate confidentiality.
About You
Essential:
1. Extensive experience of multi-disciplinary design management, in a design-build environment.
2. Degree in an engineering-related discipline.
3. Chartered Engineer in an engineering-related discipline or on a clear path to get Chartered.
4. APM Project Fundamentals Qualification.
5. Must be delivery-driven with the ability to set targets and manage and motivate multi-disciplinary teams to deliver to time, cost and quality objectives.
6. Working knowledge of CDM Regulations and construction Health & Safety.
7. Extensive experience in large-scale project delivery.
8. Strategic, operational, technical and management skills.
9. Good general knowledge of all aspects of water/wastewater treatment e.g., related process, civil and MEICA engineering aspects.
10. Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently, and convincingly.
Desirable
1. Working towards or have obtain APM Project Management Qualification.
2. Experience of working for a global organisation.
3. Experience of working with remote/dispersed teams.
4. Experience in the Water/Wastewater Treatment Industry.
5. Ability to embrace collaborative and innovative working.
6. Knowledge of BIM procedures and techniques.
