Job Description

Job Purpose
The Workplace Drug Testing (WDT) laboratory predominately analyses samples for drugs of abuse. This role involves handling human urine, saliva, and hair samples. It is a busy team in Heathrow in which short deadlines make the work quite hectic at times and speed and accuracy are most important.
The Lab Technician is responsible for the day-to-day submissions in the lab and maintaining chain of custody whilst carrying out tasks around the lab to assist the analysts to complete analysis of samples.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
* Open samples received daily
* Log in samples through data entry onto our Laboratory Information Management System
* Maintain chain of custody
* Check paperwork and sample integrity
* Manage sample storage
* Scan and file documents and paperwork
* Perform laboratory housekeeping and consumables replenishment
* Sign and sort deliveries
* Witness samples (where required)
* Decap and assist with aliquoting
* Calibrate pipettes and balances
* Organise services of instruments and consumables
* Chase and goods receipt orders
* Prepare mobile phases and solutions
* Perform any other laboratory-based task assigned
* Perform any other administrative task assigned
* Provide support to the team, for example assisting the administration team when required
* Achieve key performance indicator targets (individually and as part of a team)
* Participate in Quality and Safety tasks
Laboratory protection (safety glasses, lab coat and disposable gloves) must be worn at all times.
In addition, all successful applicants will be required to undertake drug and alcohol testing prior to commencing employment.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Experience and Technical Skills
* Educated to A/Levels or equivalent
* Good computer skills including typing speed and accuracy
* Demonstrated good interpersonal and team-playing skills
* Excellent attention to detail for effective data input
* Ability to handle a flexible workload
* Demonstrate a high level of confidentiality when dealing with sensitive material
* Proactive worker with an enthusiastic attitude to work
* Some lifting will be involved
