You will be key in demonstrating highly specialist expertise and specialist occupational therapy skills in areas such as occupational engagement, environmental adaption, development and maintenance of skills needed for meaningful participation.
You will also have experience in managing a designated caseload using theoretical and practical experience, completing assessments, planning, implementing interventions, and evaluating outcomes aligned to care plans.

Thornford Park Hospital is a 142 bedded Forensic Mental Health Hospital. We provide comprehensive personalised assessment and treatment programmes for men with mental illness/complex care needs as well as those with personality disorder within our Medium & Low Secure services. Service users may have histories of offending and/or may have failed in previous placements.
The Thornford Park Occupational Therapy team is one of the largest Occupational Therapy teams among Forensic Mental Health hospitals with 9 Qualified Occupational Therapists, 11 Occupational Therapist Assistants, a Fitness Instructor, and other sessional workers.

Your responsibilities as an Occupational Therapist will include:
1. Communicating effectively with a range of clinicians, managers, directors, associate directors, people who access services, carers/supporters/family members, stakeholders, and agencies.
2. Providing compassionate and effective leadership to junior staff including support staff and assistants.
3. Ensuring the delivery of occupational therapy student placements.
4. Supporting the completion of appraisals/personal development plans with junior staff.
5. Being responsible for the development and implementation of appropriate policies, protocols, and care pathways.
To be a Successful Occupational Therapist you will need:
1. Occupational Therapy profession qualification.
2. Extensive and relevant post qualification clinical experience with individuals who have complex needs.
3. Experience in working with service users with ASD and LD diagnoses.
4. Experience in Sensory Integration Therapy or knowledge of Sensory Integration.
5. Extensive experience of applying occupational frames of reference and approaches.
6. Demonstrated evidence of highly effective clinical reasoning skills.
7. Highly specialist knowledge of relevant assessment and treatment models.

You will work at Thornford Park which is a combination of medium secure and low secure units and rehabilitation flats. The service provides a seamless internal care pathway supporting and empowering patients in their recovery and rehabilitation.
You will work alongside the multidisciplinary team to provide personalised assessment and treatment programmes for males with mental illness/complex care needs as well as those with personality disorder. Service users may have histories of offending and/or may have failed in previous placements.
