Job Title: Controls Engineer
Location: Hybrid Role
The controls engineer will be responsible for the specification, design, and delivery of the complete controls system for automation systems sold and delivered.
This includes the electrical design, PLC and HMI software design, commissioning, and fault finding of the controls systems.
Additionally, the controls engineer will assist in providing 24-hour support to our installed client base via a support rota. Outside of normal office hours, this is primarily via remote support with site attendance possibly required if the issue can't be resolved remotely.
They will be responsible for ensuring that the control system elements of projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the agreed specifications, and that the implementation of the project meets or exceeds the customer's expectations.
MAIN JOB TASKS, ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Design and development of full, PLC-based controls systems for automation systems.
2. Developing PLC code and HMI systems, typically Siemens and Rockwell.
3. Design and development of electrical control panels and electrical installations for systems including electrical calculations.
4. Testing, fault finding/rectification, and commissioning of electrical and control systems on our customers' sites.
5. Help supervise/monitor the on-site installation of automation systems.
6. Preparing all necessary internal and external documentation in support of our control systems, including but not limited to supporting our clients in preparation of the URS, developing FDS documents, HMI/SCADA specifications, and Electrical Specifications.
7. Working with colleagues in preparation of communications documents. Development of internal documents that support a standardised approach.
8. Contribute to the continual evaluation and development of controls system standards, including PLC software, HMI software, system architecture, and electrical hardware used.
9. Customer training and handover of installed systems.
10. Liaising with and controlling external partners in pursuit of best-in-class electrical solutions relating to our deliverables.
11. To support the sales function in preparation of controls elements of sales offers and other deliverables.
12. Customer support (mainly telephone but occasional need to visit site), being part of a support rota with 2-3 other colleagues, during which time on support being contactable 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. This excludes personal holidays; this is Frontline support.
13. Responsibility for ensuring smooth handover to the Customer Support team including provision of 'as built' drawings and 'as built' software (PLC and High level).
