The Role Scope
As a key member of the finance team, this role supports the Head of Commercial Finance and the Finance Director and takes ownership of key areas of the P&L including Marketing Trading and Digital spend, Postage and Packaging Income, and supporting the Buying and Merchandising team with analyzing profitability and forecasting. The role will support and drive business decision-making, business partnering with senior stakeholders across the business.
Role key responsibilities:
Commercial Finance
* Be the finance lead for the Customer and Digital team providing support and challenge to the Customer Director and direct reports, helping to optimise c£40m of digital spend.
* Develop knowledge of key business metrics especially on the Customer side and work closely with Customer team to assess performance, opportunities and risks.
* Work with the Customer, Finance and Operations teams to optimise Postage & Packaging (P&P) income, assessing the impact of decisions on Customers and effectiveness of different P&P mechanics.
* Support the Head of Commercial Finance in assessing market profitability ensuring it is reported fairly and that market economics are fully understood.
* Support capex and opex requests including new contracts / contract renewals through investment appraisal including costs / benefits.
Business Planning
* Ownership and preparation of budgets and forecasts working with key stakeholders and Directors across Customer, Finance, Buying and Merchandising.
* Support update and refinement of MandM’s 5 year plan.
* Work with Buying & Merchandising around stock investment planning.
Data, Systems & Tools
* Utilise all available data tools and datasets to enhance efficiency and decision-making.
* Work closely with the Data team to realise data opportunities and understand granular detail, benefiting both Finance and the wider business.
* Support definition and development of the finance systems roadmap.
Management Accounting
* Ownership of key P&L lines and accountable for parts of the balance sheet having a clear understanding of variances, risks and opportunities.
* Support preparation, content and distribution of Management Accounts.
About You
Skill/competency
* Qualified CIMA/ACCA or equivalent with 3+ years PQE.
* Commercial Finance background is a must.
* Strong team leader who has developed individuals and managed performance.
* Able to work on own initiative.
* Excellent communication skills with experience of communicating at all levels.
* Experience with budgeting, forecasting, modelling, planning.
* Good knowledge of accounting standards.
* High level of numeracy.
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Have strong finance systems experience including analytical tools.
