What Is The Opportunity?
Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) is awarded the design and works of the Scarborough Subway Extension project. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools and other key destinations throughout the city.
What You Will Do Here:
1. Promote, lead and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors and consultants in compliance with the provincial occupational health and safety legislation.
2. Promote safety in all activities and engage in safe work plan development, hazard assessments, FLRAs and mentorship with crew.
3. Oversee all on-site construction activities on a daily basis and approve daily production records, reporting on work progress.
4. Assure construction is in compliance with design requirements.
5. Track and report project quality control, resource requirements and customer or labour relations.
6. Ensure project materials and workmanship meets the project quality standards.
7. Ensure Superintendent(s) are in compliance with all assignments, project policies and procedures.
8. Direct Superintendent(s) on productivity issues and monitor the work performance, working with the Foreman and crews to overcome challenges.
9. Follow project plans and budget while ensuring the Superintendent(s), Foreman and crews perform to meet production goals.
10. Translate drawings, specifications and work requirements into a prioritized work plan.
11. Understand the scope and sequencing of work, plan and prioritize the work, effectively redirect crews and equipment to assigned tasks and minimize downtime on sites.
12. Contribute to the development of a construction plan.
13. Work with the Project Manager and Project Director to identify equipment and labour resource requirements and to periodically reassess daily goals to meet forecasted production, schedules and budgets.
14. Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections.
15. Build and maintain a strong functional team through instruction, training, coaching and team building.
16. Document reporting of and maintaining in good repair all company owned and rented tools, equipment and assets.
17. Support an inclusive employee relationship culture and is accountable for adherence to policies / collective agreements that ensure a respectful and inclusive work environment for all staff and union craft employees.
What You Bring To The Team:
1. Minimum 15 years’ experience in heavy civil / construction projects with 5 years’ experience supervising staff and subcontractors.
2. Proven ability to lead a multidisciplinary operations team including superintendents, foremen, project coordinators, field engineers and unionized craft employees.
3. Capable of identifying constructability issues in moderately complex situations and creating solutions in the construction plan and schedule.
4. Ability to guide safe work practices in a high-pressure environment while maintaining project quality, schedule and budget.
5. Experience managing work in a self-performing work environment.
6. Thorough knowledge of applicable OH&S legislation.
7. Exceptional ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
8. Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
9. Must Maintain a valid Class 5 Driver's License.
