Outwood Academy Haydock is seeking to appoint a vibrant and dynamic Design Technology teacher, who is a workshop specialist, to join our fantastic team. Our goal is ‘Students First’ and you will be joining dedicated team of expert teachers, passionate about delivering outstanding lessons within our state-of-the-art facilities in the school's Science and Technology block. Our enthusiastic educators are further supported by a highly skilled and experienced Technology Technician.
Qualifications
• A degree in an appropriate discipline related to relevant subject.
• Teaching qualification together with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Knowledge
• Awareness of the strategies available for improving the learning and achievement of all students.
• A good understanding of curriculum developments in the specific subject area.
Experience
• Recent and relevant teaching experience in employment or training
• Experience of assessment at Key Stage 3 and 4
Skills
• Able to use a range of teaching and learning strategies
• An understanding for how Assessment for Learning can improve student performance Confidence in the use of standard computer packages (word processing, email and spreadsheets) and how these can be used to enhance student learning
• Able to use student level data to raise standards
• Able to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team
• Creative in problem solving together with willingness to take on and try new approaches and ideas
• Ability to relate to students in a pleasant and sympathetic manner and to recognise potential child safeguarding issues
• Ability to communicate high expectations to all students
• Able to communicate both orally and in writing to students and their parents
• Sharing good practice across the department

• The Technology Department at Outwood Academy Haydock is a vibrant hub of creativity and innovation. You'll join a dedicated team of expert teachers, passionate about delivering outstanding lessons within our state-of-the-art facilities in the school's Science and Technology block. Our enthusiastic educators are further supported by a highly skilled and experienced Technology Technician.
• The department boasts an exceptionally well-resourced and culturally rich curriculum, featuring cutting-edge classroom technologies that empower teachers to deliver dynamic and inspiring learning experiences. We nurture a close-knit and supportive team environment – a true family dedicated to maximising the potential of every student and equipping them with the skills and knowledge to succeed in the future.
• The department has made significant strides in recent years, achieving our highest ever results in Hospitality & Catering and Engineering, all of which were in line with or above national averages. We have also expanded our curriculum offer to reintroduce Textiles and are currently in the process of reintroducing Product Design onto the curriculum.
• We are a highly successful department with a tremendous track record in extra-curricular activities. In recent years, we have consistently finished in the top ten of the prestigious V&A Innovate challenge, culminating in an outright victory in 2023 and a category win in 2022.
