The post holder will be responsible for planning meaningful activities, using practical, communication and creative skills to provide a flexible programme of group and individual activities on and off the ward. The activities provided will vary depending on the age, culture, interests, gender and needs of the patient group. This will be informed by Safety Huddles and may include developing additional skills and working relationships with other colleagues, including volunteers, to expand the social and recreational opportunities available in line with evolving service needs.
Main duties of the job
1. To form professional and respectful relationships with the following groups of people, maintaining clear boundaries whilst promoting patients' autonomy and enabling choice.
2. To use practical, communication and creative skills to plan and provide a range of social and recreational activities on the acute, in-patient wards.
3. To manage individuals and groups of patients in social and recreational activities on and off the ward. This may include people who have physical disability and health needs, behaviours that challenge and learning disabilities as well as an acute episode of confusion and delirium.
4. To contribute to the assessment of patients by reporting presentations, changes, performance and progress whilst engaged in individual and group activities.
5. To ensure the safe use of equipment and storage of materials.

Qualifications
* Qualification to level 3 or equivalent experience in relevant subject (e.g. health and social care)
* ECDL or similar IT qualification or experience
Experience
* Experience of providing social and recreational activities in group settings and with individuals
* Experience of record-keeping in health / social care settings
* Experience of working with people who have cognitive, physical, learning disability or challenging behaviour.
* Recent experience of working in acute setting
Knowledge & Skills
* Personal practical or creative skills e.g. craft, music, art, cookery
* Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Knowledge of risk factors and management in a hospital setting
