Are you a PMLD Teacher looking to make a real difference in the lives of children and be part of an exciting new expansion? We are seeking a Special Educational Needs, PMLD Teacher for a vibrant primary school in Chislehurst specialising in supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and complex medical needs or (PMLD) specifically in KS1-2. This school offer fantastic CPD opportunities and welcome applications from experienced SEN teachers, regardless of need within the school.
In this rewarding PMLD Teacher role, you will be responsible for creating a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment tailored to the unique needs of each student based on their care plan. Your expertise as an PMLD Teacher will help develop individualised learning plans that promote engagement, through a sensory based curriculum whilst providing students with a comprehensive curriculum focused on the need for a sensory approach to learning and the motivation for each of the students needs.
The School
The successful PMLD Teacher applicant would be joining an outstanding SEN school Chislehurst for children with severe learning difficulties and complex medical needs. This SEN school offers provision for pupils from 4-11 years, who have severe learning differences and complex medical needs. There is a focus on child-centred learning, and staff are trained in specialist communication methods such as augmentative and alternative communication, makaton, PECS and communication books, as well as working alongside medical professionals.
PMLD Teacher Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement personalised educational programs based on a curriculum that centres around students needs, such as connecting and responding, lifeskills and independence.
- Work with individualised care plans to maximise student potential, development and success, focusing on a modified national curriculum and also the EYFS curriculum.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including therapists and educational psychologists.
- Foster a positive and supportive classroom atmosphere.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adapting approaches as the PMLD Teacher in the classroom.
- Engage with parents and caregivers to support student development at home and in school.
- Work with and lead a support team within the classroom
PMLD Teacher Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of ASD and PMLD teachning practices
- Experience working in a primary education setting is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
